I have a Cat 3406 5ek that Im going to rebuild this spring and have been seeing a lot of info on Oil bypass systems but dont know anyone running them.
Anyone out there have one of these systems on your truck? Which one?
How many miles since oil change?
How often do you change the filters
Do you still change regular oil filters the same amount of miles or do you wait a little more?
Oil bypass systems anyone running one?

I run the OPS system its a little pricey but worth it! I do an A & B service. Every 20k I oil sample wait for it to come back if good then i change the oil bypass and grease. Every 40k I sample if good change engine and bypass filter. Reason I wait for oil sample as no point in wasting a set of filters if something comes back bad.
Personal I never go above 100k on oil even if it's showing good.Siinman and Mad dog logistics llc Thank this. -
Seems the cost per oil change Vs this is about the same but it’s the keeping of the garbage out of the engine that seems like the reason for one
Is that what you’ve found?
Not any cheaper per mile but less junk in the engine. Especially with Dec?Siinman and Mad dog logistics llc Thank this. -

I used the FS2500 from Filtration Solutions in Olathe KS
The elements are $36 each and I changed mine at 15k with samples at 10k and full changes at 30k or 45k depending on samples.
My 12.7l 470 went to 2.3m miles when I dropped a lower rad hose at -40f and started using coolant.

I have a ops used with all parts and extra filters. Pick up Northwestern Ohio. Make a offer.

I found the FS system a bit messy on the filter changes, and the price increased.
I went with Amsoil EaBp with gallon spin on filters - change every 20-30k - sample every 10k, change oil by sample quality, typically every 25-35k. -

I think they all work about the same, I like the assurance of multiple filtration removing potentially harmful deposits.
I think the later engines incorporated double filters with a finer micron rating for one of the filters to essentially perform the same function as the bypass systems - I recall ODFL going to 50k oil intervals around 2013 with the DDEC 15 they were buying.
Spin on is a lot less messier than the cotton cartridges FS had prior. -
I've been running gulf coast filters GCF2 since 2004 on my 6TS 3406E. sample every 10k change filters every 12k, way, Way easier than doing an oil change. With the regular sampling I know exactly what's going on in my engine and we can watch a pattern develop if it does.
GYPSY65 Thanks this.
