Those guys who pull the RVs are just wearing out their trucks, that is unless they are older and just want to get out of the house. Either way not much money in it at all. Find a niche.
Authority is easy to get and great to have...but...if you have nothing to haul, the insurance premiums will eat you alive. You may want to stay working for a company that has the loads or find another type of load to move.
all joking aside, This guy wants to haul RV's..I don't know the RV business BUT, What I can add to this is 'POSITVE reinforcement to a guy that truly wants to be a professional carrier hauling general freight commodities.. While I agree with Most of Admiral's points....Getting a TRUE,Honest customer is not as hard as these guys are making it out to be...How bad do you want it? Don't let any of these guys tell you its all that HARD,or you only get lucky. Im not sure where your located..But Im here in Chicago, Even with a 1 truck operation,You can still secure quality customers with fair payment terms, Most likely,(unless its a small company,or they need weekly inbound material) YOU CAN GET A LOT OF OVERFLOW FREIGHT OR FREIGHT THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE THROWN AT A 3PL/BROKER...iT can BE DONE. I have MANY customers that would rather deal with a smaller carrier (especially on inbound freight) as opposed to throwing out scraps to a broker.. And the 'Neat' thing about the world of transportation today? You don't have to Wine n Dine the Customer (like years past) Logistics supervisor,Buyer or transportation president, Don't have time for a "Dog and Pony show"..They want Results Today, And your On Time service will outshine any Dog and Pony Show these logistic hounds (brokers) throw their direction From my experience here in the Midwest..Talk is cheap, Service Matters Best of luck to the OP,Or anyone else that I may have brightened their day
Again, if you want someone to get you some Direct Contracts...send me an email...it will cost you. Jerry
One I think you can haul a RV with out authority on a small 1 ton truck. But I could be wrong . TWO This RV biz is going to EXPLODE with low fuel prices. Baby Boomers with low oil prices it is going to be NUTS. Just my take on things.
that was probably the best quote I've read so far. Everyone else is just clueless opinions, and judgmental statements. So I agree with you, all these hauling companies start somewhere, so what is a quantitative number to entice them? Do I need my own yard, how many trucks in my fleet? drivers? years of experience? I mean honestly you know as much as I do. A nd to all the truckers with smart comments, I noticed not a single person can answer my question definitively. That being the case, I assume none of you have your own authority as no one knows the answer beyond hauling just cars. Just guessing and self defeatist assumptions.
