We barely made it to California with our hours. Co driver only had 2 hours on the clock when we dropped off final load. And I was completely out hours upon arriving in California. Running off recap hours the whole way to ca from Kentucky. Greyhound worked alright...kind of. The bus driver let me board early on the bus instead of waiting for 7 hours at the greydog terminal. What's scarier than a trainee driving a big rig? A greyhound trainee driving a bus full of passengers for her first time. Come to find out upon boarding that it was the bus drivers first day on the job. She even announced on the intercom to all the passengers on the bus,"this is my first day driving, so I might get lost."...."thank you for choosing greyhound." She definitely was not lying about getting lost. Took a while for her to find the freeway and the bus overheated going over the tejon pass/grapevine going to bakersfield. I guess greyhound will hire anyone with a pulse just like trucking. I'm home now and all is good. I get to keep a normal sleep schedule for the next 3 days now.
Most of the time I get dropped off at a truck stop near where I live. I believe there was a miscommunication this time. Trying to fix my car so I can just drive home next time.
If you haven't already, see if you need to put in for a parking pass. I remember having to fill out some form (and even then there was not much parking to spare in Pomona). As for Greyhound, on the return trip see if you can get the amount of the ticket credited towards a car rental -- sometimes a 1-way economy rental is actually less, even after gas (though probably not during peak business like Thanksgiving)
About two more weeks with this student and I can upgrade him and get a student that actually speaks English as a first language. Not sure how me saying "get off on exit 194 for fuel turns into him waking me up at exit 149 saying "there's nothing here" lol.
I remember being woken by honking horns to discover my first team mate backing up an off-ramp. "Da vachine, it said tourn leff, I tourn leff!" So glad he didn't make it to the freeway going the wrong way. Bit of trivia: Those white freeway reflectors reflect red light from the opposite direction (when going the wrong way)
