In a way it's true, if you presume to be nothing more than a subject to market forces and truckin business is all you can do. Some people, however, may have more diversified skillset and will abandon/suspend trucking in favor of something else. But for that they still need to know their profits and costs as the basis for decision making I know that with one truck and trailer you can even do it by "feel" but I can't imagine a fleet owner not knowing their numbers.
There is another option. Get a rate to start with so you’re not thinking about loading up $1.00 a mile freight.
In addition to what I said earlier, knowing my numbers of business costs, which at the workload of 80k -100k a year are consistent and similar (last 3 years) already shows me that I cannot persist in what I have been doing. .that is running a dry van TL on a spot market and expect a decent living unless I generate over 200k gross. With my home time and family commitments also my individual ability (or the lack of) to negotiate rates, this figure is unattainable.
Thank you Mr. Obvious.....or is it Mr. I’m the greatest O/O and have never hauled anything for under $2.50 a mile?
You missed the whole point of thread because you were so focused on letting everyone know how great you are.
