Speak for yourself. I got into this industry for the SOLE PURPOSE of being a LONG HAUL solo driver. I make a good living. If you are having such a hard time finding a job.......you may want to check your attitude.
No offense there’s all types of trucking I tried that type it wasn’t for me. I actually have a very positive attitude in meat space.
Your not getting passed over because of your age. Your getting passed over because every one of those Guys and girls who were tough enough to spend A couple years on the road are who they want. That's who the insurance companies want. It's called experience, real experience. If they can handle the road they can handle anything. You won't make half what we make out putting Around in dump, and cement trucks. That's bottom of the barrel trucking jobs. You don't know anything about this industry.
Just found a garbage truck role at a private company for 55k+ (one year experience required) in my region. I am honestly asking, is that bottom of the barrel? Saw some similar salaries for some other cement/dump roles. I see wildly varying pay for OTR on the other hand, so its hard to tell.
I bookmarked this page a few days ago but I get the sense you might like some of the training opportunities they have that you can couple with a CDL. ATS Heavy Equipment Operator Training School, Crane Operator Training School and CDL Truck Driver Training School
I retired out of the Navy & never heard of that jargon. My husband was army & never heard it either. I have heard of a "meat shield" which is an infantryman in the Canadian Army. I guess you learn something new everyday.
