IMO, this is all effectively divide and conquer rhetoric. Sure there are differences between O/O's, lease O/O's, lease purchase drivers, company drivers, local drivers, etc... but maybe it would be more fruitful to stick up for ALL our fellow drivers. Maybe it would be better to find ways to make things better for all of us than to play one upsmanship between us. I think we all deserve more respect, better pay, and better working conditions. We shouldn't try to put each other down, we should build up the image of all truckdrivers. And for the record, I may be a "businessman" and a pretty good one at that. But I will always be a trucker first and proud of it. IMO, it is the "businessmen" who are destroying our industry and sucking all the profit out of it while we do the work.

 

for starters i dont think they will Ban you at least they shouldnt
but the part from last thread that is in red I get the OP that started this was wrong but saying you will run him off the road is wrong and dangerous and gives truckers a bad name (i hope you would never actually do it)
also saying O/O run the trucking industry You are so full of wrong there and you know it companys RUN the industry some O/O are just better at there job than some company drivers as they have more respect for the trucks. but in no way does that mean all company drivers are like that and not all O/O are like you either there are good and bad in both aspects

Very True.If you talk to my Dad,he will tell you when truckers ruled the entire business.That was wayyyyyyy back in the 40's and 50's..The ''truckers'' ran the business,the highways and everyone else attched to them made made the less money.(Brokers,Serviceman,Toll's,Government,Oil Companies etc etc etc)

Today it has made a 360 turn.Truckers for the most part make the Lesser and everyone else attched to them,make the ''BIGGER'' money..I said it once and i will say it again.We the drivers for the most part,are on the wrong end of the business these days..

I know a guy that lives in Jersey.He is 29 years old and he is a broker.His home is worth a 800,000 and he drives away in his Mercedes home every night.The truckers he supplys live in the trailer parks and ride away in there rusted out old 1993 ford pick up truck.After playing the claw game in there yellow sweat pants at the Vince Lombardi....

 

Unfortunately, there aren't enough businessmen who also own trucks. Too many owner operators never seem to understand that they are first a businessman and then a truck driver. I agree with what you said about the businessmen sucking the profit out of the industry, but it is those who have never sat in the drivers seat who are running most of the largest carriers. They can't relate to the day to day challenges confronting owner operators and drivers. Those who write these articles about drivers haven't a clue to what this industry is about. They see one incident and assume that everyone is just like the guy who just cut him off. Things have changed a lot since I first entered this industry. We did have a lot of so called "outlaws" in the business. It was more out of necessity that anything. Even so, truckers were well respected back then. Many who have come into this industry over the last 10 or so have begun to change the way drivers are treated and perceived by the public. Some of the movies about truckers have also not helped our image. Truckers have a negative image. If we are to be honest, much of that is due to some who are in this industry who should probably have found something else to do for a living. Truckers used to be helpful to motorists. They would pull on the shoulder to allow cars to pass when going up or down a mountain, allowing cars to pass more easily. If someone was broke down on the road, a trucker was usually the first to stop and lend assistance. I understand that it is not always safe to stop, but people have changed as have their attitudes. Until we change ourselves, we should not expect the public's perception to change.

 

Im one of those drooling company drivers,lol, but im going to have to agree with you.

 

true sometimes I would let things slid by but never something dangerous. minor things like a light out or a worn but still safe part or oil leak.

 

Just remember, ALL GENERALIZATIONS ARE WRONG!
