I mean, Paccar Corporate won't provide tech support when NOBODY at any Peterbilt dealership can figure out what is wrong with a truck. You'd think that SOMEBODY... ANYBODY at Paccar would want to find a solution to problems in a 3 year old truck. My truck spent 4 months at Peterbilt and the Paccar Reps threw up their hands and gave up. Nobody at Paccar Engine knows anything about the electronics in a Peterbilt, Peterbilt has no clue how Paccar electronics work... See a problem yet? I do. Cummins has factory techs who's job is to manage links between their engine and any trucks that they put them in. Peterbilt and Paccar have no such position on either end.
RUN AWAY FROM PACCAR if you're an owner operator planning on running after your warranty expires.

You do realize that Paccar does own Peterbuilt, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't understand the electronics.Eeyore05 Thanks this. -
You've seen the "support from Paccar"? You mean the tech (the wizard of oz behind the curtain) will spend 20 minutes (that you are paying for) reading an e-mail then tell the parts changer what parts to throw at it? Is THAT what you mean by "support from paccar"? Wait till they can't figure something out, like mine. 150 hours and $7,000 worth of parts thrown at my truck is where the "support from Paccar" ended on my truck. Thats where they finally admitted they can't fix it.
Yes, I do know that Paccar owns Peterbilt. Thats why it is incomprehensible to me that they don't know each others product. Paccar Corporate owns Paccar Engine, they also own Peterbilt Motors, they are not the same companies. They have the same corporate headquarters so you'd think it would be easy for them to e-mail some schematics to each other.Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this. -
Oh, I forgot this. Just for fun, ask a parts changer (they like to call themselves "techs" but they know nothing about technology)... Ask a parts changer if they know how a "CAN" works or even what it does. The "techs" at Rush have no idea, the wizard at Paccar knows what it is but has no idea what it does... As I said, 4 months and $7000 wasted on unnecessary parts at Peterbilt... Took a local mechanic 30 minutes to diagnose the "CAN BUS 2" fault.

A truck with the Paccar in it sells for a lot less than the same truck with any other motor. That is really all you need to know. If you rely on your truck for your living why risk it? Take the beer goggles off and look past the 'pretty', treat it as an asset/equipment purchase that you need to rely on to make you money.
LoneCowboy and BeN DaViS Thank this. -
I purchased a 2012 KW T660 with a Paccar 435 hp engine. Purchased with 390k and have 435k with no problems. Just change the oil evey 12k and you should have no problems. I went by a Kenworth dealership in
Georgia to speak with a mechanic before I purchased the truck from a private party. The mechanic said that the Paccar is a good engine and they see more Cummins engine problems than Paccar. He also said change your filters regularly.larry2903 Thanks this. -
