Funny you would ask that... Nobody at Rush Truck Center knows what a CAN/BUS is, or how to diagnose, repair, or replace one.

I'm having a similar problem. Have a 2014 KW T680 with Paccar engine. DEF guage won't work, engine stop light on and no power. It's at Peterbilt in Effingham, IL and they can't figure it out!

I think he is referring to used truck market. Almost all brand new trucks, similarly equiped are fairly close in price. Look at the price difference between a Kenworth and Freightliner. The Kenworth is usually twice as much as a Freightliner.

And a Peterbuilt with a Cummings? You can't put a price on that truck!

A whole 45k miles? Just change the oil????? What's that got to do with the issues they can have????? We're not talkin' about mechanical wear, we're talking about everything else. Good luck !

We run 587 peterbilt with the paccar engine. Average about 7.2 pulling reefer and close to the same pulling dry van. Motors seem to be holding up well so far. But after hearing all the horror stories we did purchase the paccar premium warranty on all the trucks. We plan on keeping them at least until the warranties run out and then go from there. I think a lot of the issues have to do with service work on those trucks. We purchased 2 on the same day from mhc Memphis that were ex trans carrier trucks. Low 300's on the miles. The guy said change the oil every 20k to 30k. We haven't done that. We change ours at 15k and if we run over no more than 18k. We don't run Lucas because another paccar mechanic said it made the oil too thick to libricate some of the internal parts as good due to the thickness. Guess we will see how they hold up as they continue to run down the road. As far as power, there are no complaints on that side.

If you want a Kenworth or Pete with no engine issues. The problem is simple to fix. Order a glider. And put some yellow under the hood. Lol sorry but after seeing and hearing about all the paccar and cummins issues. This seems like the best idea.

I agree the glider is a good choice but there are some issues there as well. I have a good friend of mine that bought a peterbilt 389 with a glider in it. On several occasions he had trouble with the electronics working together on the truck. Also had some engine problems out of the truck. Started with more than normal blow by and just got worse. Never know what condition the actual block is in when they rebuilt it for your truck. Could have several rebuilds on it who really knows. Now they have added some FET tax ? Not sure. The same guy traded that glider in and got a new one through another company and he purchased it before 2016 to avoid the extra tax they are putting on the trucks. His new truck only has 17000 miles on it and is having engine issues with it already ! Nothing major but he did have to put the truck in the shop and was down several days to have it fixed. Even tho it didn't cost him out of pocket expense to get it fixed he was still out of work which cost him money. There's no perfect truck they all tear up. It's just whatever someone wants really ? As far as gliders go now they tax them and make them cost as much as a new truck with emissions on them and heard talk that they are trying to enforce more states to tax them for emissions and try to make them less enticing to purchase ? Who knows. I just chose an emissions truck due to the fact that if I want to run that truck in any state I choose I can. Once again all personal preference on things but I didn't want to experience the problems he has with his two glider kits both from well know big name glider companies. And I wasn't willing to risk in a year or two those trucks being banned so to speak of and the value fall to the point where I couldn't trade them or sell them.
