The difference here is that I am not 'asked' or 'forced' to run what I run. I do this by choice. We run with a dont ask dont tell attitude. I am extremely happy here.
As long as my DOT inspections come up 'clean', I maintain a respectable fuel economy, basically keep my nose clean,.. I am very well rewarded for what I do.
I am motivated by greed. Dont hate the player,.. hate the game. As long as we are paid by CPM and I have free reign to get as many as I can,.. I will continue to do so. Only now I call my own shots. I sleep when I want, I have no set delivery times, I basically do what and how I want to do things. If I am tired,.. I sleep. I can make as much or as little as I choose. I can go home any time I want. Tell me any other driver out there with under 2 yrs of recent OTR that has what I have now?
My goal is to run here for another 1.5 yrs. At which point I should have enough cash to buy my own set up with authority or I may just lease on here. I am earning as much if not more than drivers with 15+ yrs.
And yep, thats my truck, thats my number, I get pulled in for randoms all the time. The last time I got caught with my pants down was with Apergis. I got lazy and went to sleep with out updating my log. Yes I took a chance and got caught. I make sure I wear a belt now.
My type?
So you think I speed from destination to destination?
I get bonus pay here if I keep my MPG above 6 mpg. Have you any idea how difficult that is with a C15 running flat bed? I cruise at 62 and rarely ever exceed 65. This truck is NOT governed btw.
Trash out the window? Is that what you think I do? I have a 7 gal trash can behind my seat for my garbage. I empty it at fuel stops.
I apologize to the OP for this rant. But it kind of urks me how some people are quick to criticize because you do something they disagree with. I dont advocate running outlaw. There are risks involved. The only advise I can give is to know your limits.

Big Hurst slow your role player!! The Trash, the speeding, and the pulling nose in blocking other drivers was not about you big dawg. It truly is sad that you say you are motivated by greed but at least you are honest. Of course you make more money when you run twice as many miles. Like I've said in previous post. I was the same way. So I know where you are coming from. When I started I made 20cpm so running as many miles as I could was a must to keep a roof over my families head. Now thank God. I'm no longer motivated by greed. Or have a wife who is never satisfied so. I can slow down and enjoy my career. Without the fear of doing jail time if my greed caused me to make a bad judgement call and not get more rest. Having my body shut down and end up on top of some mini van. I'll be honest sometimes I have to slap my self and yell to make it to the next safe parking area, because I refuse to just park on an on ramp. Unless its absolutely necessary. Like I say I'm glad you are the one calling the shots as you say and not your dispatcher. So keep your nose clean and that truck pretty and watch out for the haters kemosabe.

I'm not out to jeopardize any lives by running the way I do. I want to make that clear. There is running hard and there is running stupid. Apergis gave you impossible delivery schedules to adhere to. I have none here. I run at my own pace. I have my good (Money making) days and I have days where I just feel like slacking off. Its good to have that option in this business.
I have no reason to lie about anything. I am not ashamed of who I am or what I do. My wife makes more than I do, so I dont have that problem either. We are trying to bank and invest as much money as we can in order to retire comfortably somewhere between age 55 - 60. Thats why I run the way I do. I am trying to earn as much as I can while I am still in good health to do it. The men on my side of the family dont live much past 60. Social Security is almost bankrupt now. I doubt I'll live long enough to collect on it anyway.
I park at on ramps all the time when rest areas are full. I look for ones with large enough dirt or gravel sides where I can be at least 4 - 5ft off the pavement, leave my running lights on and I am good. Else I'll break open google satellite view and look for open lots where I can park and not be hassled if I happen to be in an urban area. I run irregular routes,.. so I may find myself parking on an abandoned section of road in a no where town somewhere in the south west, or tons and tons of open places to park in Tx, Ok, Mo and such. Ironically I have more trouble finding parking in my home state of Fl then anywhere else.

Airline Capt. @ 8:44 am I scratched my nose. 8:46 am I coughed. Trucking is the only industry I have ever seen that the money mongers can control so much. So much money to be made by people that just watch us. Go get it yourself, I'm a person, I know my limits, and will not exceed them. I structure my day, or night to do my job as efficiently as possible. I make 1/4 of what I'm worth. I have to deal with 4 wheelers, weather, cops. Cops love me, I'm prime revenue, for their Bosses. 4 Wheelers hate me, I get in their way. I'm hauling their dinner to the supermarket. I work in rain, shine, snow, fog, to make sure everyone has what they need. Why do I do it? Because I can.
Hurst Thanks this. -
Look at the whole concept of lumpers.
Lets say I buy something off Ebay. The UPS man delivers it to my house. As he goes to get my package from the back of his truck, I say hold on there hoss. My home owners insurance wont cover UPS drivers on my property. But for $20 I'll get that package for you.
Image if other industries followed that business model.
Why I love flatbed so much.

Also when I mentioned (your type) I was referring to people who think they are above the rules. The rules are made for everybody else but them, but I do like the way you take responsibility for your actions. Like I say this is why there are speed cops all over the place because they know people will take the risk of doing what they want to, and they can pay a nice fine and keep our Police and government working just fine for their above the law approach. If you are going to do it. Do it safely and if and when you get caught. No sob stories about how you can't find no work because your license is jacked up. From CSA points. Anyway time to hit the road

That is why I still use a simply credit card calculator to do my math for me. Could I do it. Yes, but why risk it for something so simple to check yourself on. -
Go buy Eclipse electronic log book and let it do the work. You can go back and change it if you need too

Not that I would ever do this myself:
My "friend" does these things....
Lets say you go through a toll booth, and your E-Z pass or receipt say it is 04:00. Not the time, and the mileage. When you get to the customer, and it took you 1.5 hours to go 55 miles, log it in as 1 hour driving, then show yourself taking a break. Stay on that break. When you are done at the customer, say...3 hours later, say you were on break for 2.5 hours, and unloading for 30 minutes. This will do nothing for the 14 hour window rule, but it will keep your hours down on your 70 hour rule.
If you are at a customer for 3 hours, say you spent 2 of those hours in the sleeper. That way, later that day, you can take an 8 hour break, instead of a 10 hour break.
There are ways to cheat, but keep your records in sync with your Satellite, E-Z Pass, and paperwork. Get creative, but keep the info you record within the realm of reality to some degree.
Not that I would do that now, but if you want to, knock yourself out.luvtotruck Thanks this.
