Weigh stations are busy, why get in the way by parking there ?
-
Parked at them often, but I always make sure I take a full break before leaving, I have prepass and sometimes they look up when u came in when your pulling across the scale. I have never been woke up by a trooper to give an inspection, they want you to get rest. If you want to be sure then park on the outbound ramp, they won't make you back up to come in, just leave when your ready. I mean think about it, they want you to park, The last thing they are going to do is harass you when your resting. But as with all things, cover your butt, if you are pulling across the scale on your way out with lights out, or any number of things that will grab a troopers attention, they will probably pull you back in. Some scales have signs telling you no parking, while others like Wi., Ky., have signs that tell you can park there. Theres a run we do down off I70 in Ks just west of KC that I always park at that west bound scale since it's right before the exit I need. It's like anything, just use your head.

Some parts of Florida can have parking issues, and most of the weigh stations allow parking in back by the seldom used garage. Bathroom facility's are located in that building.

Each one has it's own circumstances to deal with. I try and avoid them unless there are no other options, and it helps to have a general idea of their normal hours and realize that some may open at 05:00. If they do open early, and there are sleepers parked, they will generally run through whooping the sirens to roust everybody up and out to make room for all the poor SOB's soon to be coming in behind you

Ive parked at the Wisconson scales. Nice and quiet. You have to run over the scales when leaving. I always make sure to do a thorough pretrip...on the clock... when I do...
