That mess in Shippensburg, PA on 81 is a series of accidents waiting to happen. It's got two lanes, but both narrow with sharp little curves. Last two times I've been through there, running the speed limit, some bozo just feels he HAS to pass 'cuz he's doing 58.

If everybody would really focus on their own safety, we could almost eliminate human-error accidents.

Couldn't agree more, with the emphasis on the word "really".

We do all construction work and probably 95% is road construction. Having done alot of paving on I-80 the last three years, cleaning off my spread pan in the dead lane, I can honestly say there is alot more big trucks speeding in workzones than there is cars. Flame away, but, if i were a cop i would pull over every truck, car, cycle who is speeding and give all tickets no warnings. If you cant get there on time going 65 its because of mismanagement of your own time.

Not to say that you are wrong about this, but do you think it's easier to tell when a big truck is speeding than with a car. It could all be a matter of perception. Either way you are right, there should be no warnings for violations in construction zones. On top of that the fines should be made to hurt, and I mean really hurt.

It occured to me after some thought that I could not see the right side of the truck being hauled out on the hook. I would be willing to be there was some significant damage to its right side....perhaps from a sideswipe collision with the truck that was upside down in the ditch.

I can only hope the driver in the upside down truck lived.

I was going to reference this situation and I 55 in Memphis in my reply to INJUN's excellent post. I haven't seen the one in IA but both PA and TN are absurd and both have had a few spectacular crashes. I, too am tempted to lay blame solely on their respective DOTs but, ultimately, it comes down to the 18 wheeled moron that has to pass, just has to get through at any cost. They don't see, they don't think, they just run right through like they always have.

I have blocked both. I don't have a CB and I could not care less what other's thoughts might have been. You want to hit me? Fine. Do it from behind where the odds favor me.

I called PennDot on I 81 . . the immediate response was "Well, a lot of trucks pass through everyday without incident . . " Yes, idiot. Including mine. I didn't call to let you know I was one of the lucky ones.

That's true in many cases, but it's simply not true in every situation. There are plenty of drivers who have experienced the need to drive faster than 65 for reasons other than poor time management on their part. That said, there's no reason to ever drive over the posted speed limit in construction zone where workers are present.

This site sure seems to have more than it's share of naive little angels who have no clue about some of the challenges involved hauling perishables. Guess they don't teach that stuff in bigtime trucker school.

I love the give and take here. Let's face it nobody is 100% right whem it comes to talking about their opinions. Odds are you are going to disagree with something someone said. Hopefully the people can get a better idea of what the big picture really is.

Yeah, it would be a boring old world if we all agreed on everything. Heck, I can't even get the old gal I sleep with to agree with me on everything.
