They didn’t ban trucks, just engines. Old trucks can be retrofitted with new engines if someone chooses to go that route. I can’t find the pic right now but there’s a Pete 362 cabover hauling hay with a new Cummins and a def tank on it.

Hauling dirt is what I'm doing at the moment. It can't climb 5 feet at all on the loading sight. And I really don't want to beat the truck up gaining momentum.

Then there's the back talking it does. You can't flip anything off or on without being still and in neutral with brakes applied. I can't even stick in drive without brakes pedal.

Everyone else gets to the dumpsite. Rolls on by as they raise their dumps. Lowers their dumps and leave.

Me. I gotta come to a complete stop in neutral and turn everything on. Dump. Stop. Turn everything off.

    Pfft.

I prefer stick. It just works.

I'll give it this much though. It don't need brakes to stop. The Jake does a good job on it's own

It must be nice to have never had to sit or drive a loaner because your DPF had to be pulled & baked, DEF quality sensor failed during the pandemic when they were on national backorder, EGR sensors were soot fouled, auto trans wouldn't go into gear, or digital instrument cluster went blank.

Me. That's a skill I would like to have mastered. The only reason I never learned is because the only guy I ever knew who had a 2-stick setup was killed in a wreck before I got my CDL.

I think everyone should be able to drive what makes em happy. Sticks, stick, or push button long as your gettin that deal done feedin who needs fed that your responsible for then your makin a hand in my opinion.

Ran with a fresh kid couple weeks ago. Pops up in a 320 wheel base 379 that they tout to be show type #### on social media, you could see the runs in the hood at a 100 ft. Orange peel looked like a Brillo pad. Yet he was excited to be a cow hauler. I told him I’m slow you probably got things to do so let’s get you loaded first and I won’t be in your way. To my surprise he said Sir I’m pretty new at this cattle deal and 320 inches of frame rail. I’m just trying to take my time and not tear anything up. Sorta restored my faith in the younger crowd for a minute……right up till he said I think all we should have to do is drive. I don’t like loading and unloading myself. The point here is the world is a different place than it once was. And even the silliest of folks can have a touch of sense.

Nice? LOL... Sure driver sure... Sounds like a lot of fun till you hit the first grade... or have to go find a bottle of ether to get started, or have to drive all day with no cruise control because they weren't invented yet. Or have to find #1 fuel Ah. yes.. those where the good old days

When I started driving all the stuff you mentioned were things of the past, and the modern-day BS that I mentioned hadn't been invented yet. But I'd rather use ether to start an engine than have one shut down by a computer due to an emissions component failure.

PS: In over 20 years of driving, I've never seen #1 fuel for sale. That must be an up north thing.

It would make you a more well rounded driver.
Manual clutch offers more choice in traction and slow speed control.
    More choice in rpm range.
And it also expands your choices when it comes to specialty operations that use only manual transmission

Have people seen the Eaton Endurance XD pro 18 speed auto shift ? It looks good and they are testing it pulling 200,000 LBS it seem with rated pull at 150,000 or 167,000 for B Train setup.
