Hey guys need help with my speed sensor it broke apart when trying to get it out! It is stuck in the housing. I am afraid to drill it because all the material from drilling will go into the transmission. Any advice.

I was wondering either - really strong magnets next to it as you drill, OR really strong shop vac - or both?

I've had good luck with heavy grease on the drillbit. Drill a little bit, clean off the grease and chips, fresh grease, keep drilling.

Do you have another port on the side you could use?

Most new ones are made of plastic you just have to dig it out with a sharp tool, the center will pull out with some pointed nose tool.

A set of sharp mechanics picks may help you out.

I agree with the grease if you drill, or turn the truck upside down so the shavings fall out. I also agree with the pick. Get a little hammer and see if you can't tap it lightly to get it started backing out.

this is the most frustrating thing this sensor is plastic and a magnet. whoever did this design is an idiot the transmission obviously gets really hot andand is like welded in the port with the heat

Yeah.... gotta wonder what those 'highly educated' engineers are smoking sometimes. Have you made any progress on it?

Been there, done that. Magnets are darn near impossible to drill. Get a torch, some vice grips, a HEAVY wire; heat the wire and insert into the plastic multiple times, enough to create a lot of relief around the magnet so that you can insert some pliers or a hooked tool to remove the remainder. When you insert the replacement part be sure to coat it with anti-seize or silicon grease to prevent this from happening again.
