Yeah, but that does give me hope that as long as I can keep maintaining my current numbers ( which pays the bills and some left over ) , things will be good once freight picks back up.

New year's weekend, picked up a preloaded trailer a driver dropped stating it was in perfect condition. Trailer need 4 new tires, 4 new drums, 4 new pads, 2 new springs, 3 lights and was 4 months overdue for its pm. Pulled it into the oc at 1400. Was told to drop it in the yard since they wouldn't be able to get to until the next evening. I raised holy hell with everyone I could. Tried to get taken off the load but was told there was no one that could recover the load. Sat 2 days on a $997 load that should have be delivered same day and had to cancel the $3900 in revenue for the well I had booked. Because of the market I was going into there wasn't anything left to get me back out into a decent market. The best I could pull off that week was the $997 that was suppose to go in the previous weeks check and out of the $3900 booked, I was only able to recover $1100, so there is $2800 lost in one week.
The second week of this year, lost $1300 because of another trailer that had 3 flat tires. Took road assist 3 hours to get there and nother 2.5 to replace all 3. Had to clear the board again because I couldn't make the next pick up ontime anymore. Now again trying to book something last minute in a cr@ ppy time of year (how many posts in the past 2.5 months has freightwhipper complained about the bad freight because he lost a load or waited until the last minute?) Is it really that hard to understand that if you are having a string of bad luck with cr@ ppy trailers that you could loose $1000 in non-recoverable revenue?
Fast foward to just 2 days ago again, pre-loaded trailer with hazmat I picked it up, 2 of the brakes needed to be replaced and a tire was completely flat. Two hours for SEM to find someone that could come out and do the work, another hour for that person to arrive, 45 minutes to fix the flat and 1.5 per brake. Lost time = 7+ hours. Canceled my pre-planned loads again because I couldn't make my next load pick up ontime. Now I am left with left over cr@ ppy freight. Lost non-recoverable revenue $987. That was a 154xxx trailer
Would you like me to keep going on. I have shop records for each bad trailer. My bad luck with trailers ended up coming out to 1.5 bad trailers per week on average.
3 weeks ago was my favorite one of all. I had 3 blad tires and 2 that were flat. An ice storm was coming through. SEM tells me to take the trailer 50 miles in the opposite direction to an OC. They sent that qc message twice after I refused to move the trailer in that condition. Took the repair guy 2 hours to show up, he got lost because the directions sem gave him sent him to the OC. Then it took 5.5 hours to replace the tires because he couldn't get the bead to set, his impact wrenches kept freezing up from the ice. Guess what, had to clear the board again since that load I picked with the pre-loaded trailer was suppose to be a short same day delivery. Didn't get delivered until the next day. Lost non-recoverable revenue that week $1326.
Lets see just in those 4 examples that a total of $6400 in non-recoverable revenue. But please keep calling me a lier. You just don't like to see real numbers attached to the same issues you all have had and beeched about on here. Not sure about you but I like to keep my cdl clean without csa points.
Schnieder has a good program with there load board, just a cr@ ppy program when it comes to maintenance. I pay them 35% of my load for what? Long hold times, incorrectly calculated fuel taxes, bad trailers and access to there contract freight. It's that contract freight that keeps me from jumping instatly. There is a reason why I have reserves and it's to cover my expenses when $h!t happens. By no means am I going broke ,but I hate useing my reserves.Home_on_wheels, stevep1977, scythe08 and 2 others Thank this. -
Okay....
Well you all know me, I'm the first one to beach about trailers here lol.
However that doesn't mean I'll allow myself to get bent over by Schneider in dealing with it.
The few times I came up to a preloaded trailer that was not road worthy I didn't hook to it.
I simply called Schneider and said this trailer has this, this and this problem.... take me off the load.
Then I would either have all my loads pulled or find something else to bring me to my next load.
Have there been times they wanted me to baby sit the trailer for free? Sure but they can't make me.
See I'm an IC remember and these are not my trailers. The previous driver didn't report it, that's not my problem.. I'm not going to blow an entire day for free dealing with trailer problems. Nope ain't happening. I'll do my duty and report it but that's it. If it's something minor like one tire is in bad shape.. okay I'll deal with that. However there's a point I draw the line. For example like that trailer that needed " 4 new tires, 4 new drums, 4 new pads, 2 new springs, 3 lights and was 4 months overdue for its pm"?
You hooked to it and brought it to an OC? and also say like to keep your cdl clean without csa points?
Then why even hook to the trailer?
I would tell Schneider the trailer IS NOT SAFE TO HOOK TO!. Remember safety first, safety first lol.
Then I'd tell them to deal with it themselves and pull me off the load.
I refuse to waste a day on a broken trailer for free or hook to something that's not safe, that ain't happening by no means.
I dealt with broken trailer BS as a company driver. Thing is drivers don't want to report things because that means they'll earn less or sometimes even no money for the day by having to deal with it. It sucks but that's the way it is. When I was a company driver I was stuck and had to deal with whatever the company told me to do even sitting a day with no pay to get a trailer fixed.
Now hey guess what I'm not a company driver anymore!
I've said this before and I'll say it again, we're ICs here not company drivers.
There is a difference......Last edited: Mar 11, 2016

I've been here 4 years and never been in a shop for a trailer.. I've had blown tires which some have been fixed on the side of the road or I was able to make it to the receiver then let Sni handle it but never have I dealt with your issues. I think you want to be a mechanic more than a driver lol... If the tires are good, lights work, mud flaps, brakes feel good im rolling smh... I'm not gonna do a DOT inspection everytime I pickup a trailer... That's not business smart
T_TRUCKER. Thanks this. -
Amazing. Anytime I had a tire replaced on the side of the road or at a customer I ALWAYS get a 3 way call from the service provider and the road tech to make sure everything is clear. Including directions/location etc.
T_TRUCKER. Thanks this.
