Crapp not good, nope not good at all

Do you think that it would make much difference time wise if you were to go 60MPH to get up to the 8s in MPG?
By time wise I mean appointment times, are your just squeezing the clock or are you pretty good in that department? -
I drive 60mph and never have an problem making appointments. Speed has nothing to do with making appointments.
Opus, RootHog and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
How are you doing on MPG?
-
I have been reading the board for a while and thinking about joining, IC Choice but question is the money now seems to be close to Company Dedicated jobs. I am currently on a Dedicated retail account home spend 1 night a week out otherwise home each day, work 5.5 days week for $1,200.. Considering benefits and company trucks, what would you experienced IC's choose. Thanks, for your input..

Ditto. Always around 8-9 mpg unless mountains, super heavy, or bad weather.FallingLeaf Thanks this.

Well sure the slower you go the better your MPG will be.
Going slower you also burn more time off your 70 which costs you.
I'll give an example to show how.
At $1.50 all miles
Driver A: average speed of 50 MPH, fuel 8.5 MPG, drives 8 hours a day
Driver B: average speed of 60 MPH, fuel 7 MPG, drives 8 hours a day
At $2 a gallon.. fuel costs
Driver A: $659
Driver B: $960
However driver B would have driven an extra 560 miles in the same amount of driving time.
At $1.50 that's an extra $840, then subtract the extra fuel costs of $301 and driver B ends up earning basically an extra $500 for the week.
I don't know about you all but I'd rather go faster and earn more money.
I stay out weeks at a time...
Going faster = more revenue per my 70 available hours = more than makes up the difference in fuel costs = more income for me.
I used the $1.50 example but I operate higher than that which makes the difference even more.
I just wanted to point out going slow doesn't always mean more money for you.
Everybody will have a different operation though.
Usually I'm being forced to faster just to squeeze my 2-3-4 loads on my 14.
Yeah if I'm on my last load going home, have the time and etc I will go slower.
All depends.Last edited: Mar 17, 2016
Dominick253 and FallingLeaf Thank this. -
If that were true I'd turn my truck in and go back to being a company driver.
If somebody wants to be home each day though they better not come here and would be better off having a dedicated job such as yourself.CaptainDaveG Thanks this. -
You explain how going slower will end up costing you??....if you get 7.5 Mpg and I get 8.5 mph I Can be assured I will get more net revenue than you will...simply because my expense are less than yours..
