Not all of us pull a trailer with the tandems slid forward. My lowboy as well as my flatbed stop soon as my mudflats hit the curb. So it doesn’t matter which way I’m parked…..
It’s bad enough that I need to back into a parking space while dodging fools racing through the parking lot. Backing blindly out into that mess just isn’t something I’m ever going to do unless I have no other choice.
When and if I do pull into a parking spot, I will only nose in to a spot indicated by the green arrows in the picture. This is the TA in Richmond Hill, Georgia as an example. Otherwise hell no, I have to agree with others on pulling in a spot with trucks directly behind you. That’s just asking for potential problems with trucks directly behind you, even for those with years of experience. To much of a chance on getting hit by the throttle jockey with a heavy hoof for one, and the driver playing beat the clock for another….
One of them parked nose in to get privacy and not have to breathe in the exhaust fumes of someone's APU. All the others are just aping in, they never would have thought to do this on their own.
Your concern for fellow truckers behaving as you desire is laughable when someone is parked within a designated spot (inside the lines) there is no need for second thoughts. Leave the stress behind because I will park as I please and giving no thought to you or anybody else that doesn’t make contact (crash into) with me.
First I know your 20 seconds was a figure of speech. Are you the only one that can use it? Secondly I am the type that will help but your help only goes so far if they won't listen, take advice, or are unable to follow directions. Just watched a guy hit a truck twice exactly 10 min ago as I helped someone air up thier steer tire. Stopped to help. Someone beat me to it and as he tried again he hit it a second time because he didn't want to follow the clear direction of the spotter and even ignored his yells to stop before hitting it the second time. When he got out that time I suggested he pull out, go around and get a better line up. He nodded his head, got back in the truck and kept struggling with it instead. So please keep your assumptions about how I handle things or how I should handle things to yourself and yes it was an honest 25 min waiting on 3 trucks + the time they wasted sitting there. Also while I waited for a door today a newer driver was asking for help. He needed an air line to air up his tire. ( the one I was helping while the other hit someone) I was more than happy to help and he showed me he had purchased one but couldn't get air in the tire with it. Seems they never told him he needs to push the trailer air supply in and his chuck wouldn't go over the stem (drilled too small). You know I not only let him use my air line but when done I used a vice grip and an oversized screw driver like a drill to open the hole on his chuck so he could use his own next time. So how about that helping others. Maybe you could do more! PS your not the only one old enough to remember not having no power steering.
Last time I nosed-in because of a reefer next to me, I woke up during the night when a pig-hauler parked on the other side....
