possibility of taking time off from full schedule

Have a friend that does this. He's a OO.
Drives from March to September.
Takes off an goes to Europe in October to work on his house.
November to February he goes to Alaska and runs a crab boat.
Comes back towards the end of February and starts driving again.
As an OO you have that flexibility as long as it is set up with the company in advance.
As a company driver, they would probably not allow you that same flexibility.
The only case I heard of was a driver who had to take 2 months off every year because of the way his child custody was set up.
He drove September to the end of June. Took July and August off. Then drove again from September to June.
But he had this as part of his employment agreement with the company.
