Possible answer to CDL dilemma

I was interested in getting my CDL but I couldn't afford 4-6k and a month off from my current job. Luckily I stumbled across a company that sends you study guides and practice tests for the written exam and lets you use their truck to practice and take the exam. If your having the same dilemma and reasonably close to the Dallas area you might want to check them out. cdltesttruck.com they also have some pretty good youtube videos. So far I passed my written test pretty easily and I'm awaiting my driver skills test scheduled for next month.

Are you in that much of a hurry, you said you are working now. The wife and I want to get into the business too, but knew we could not be off for 3 weeks with no pay and then low pay during training. We put a year plan into place, Save money for the weeks with no pay and condense all the bill you can. We are starting school in July, had time to check out each one of the starter companies and make a choice that works for you. There is no plan that works in a week, I have seen the company you are talking about and bet you thought you get to check out them big boobs, LOL Take your time and check out all your options it will be worth in in the long run. Correct me if wrong it sounds like you make well over 50K a year now ? You say loose 4-6 k month that is 60k a year . why leave that ? first year trucking lucky you get 35k who knows how many years to get to 60k

 

I meant that it cost 4 to 6 thousand maybe more for a trucking school, plus the lost income while taking the school. As far as Trucking income, I've met some company drivers working oilfield jobs making close to 100k a year (with a decent amount of experience) and more for owner operators. At least that's what I've heard, could be exagerated.

 

For get about OO 90% go broke the other 10% have bin doing it a long time and are VERY business savvy acually it is proberly less than 10% . Oil field 100K i doubt it .. Unless you want to go to North Dakota oil booms are doing well and that is very rough working conditions . The average # i have seen for trucking is about 40k a year .. The guy making 100k ask for his W2 or pay stub . there are post here of drivers making 32 K first year only went home couple of weeks TOTAL .. If you are getting into trucking for the monies like you bin told you will b disappointed .

 

For example one guy said he made 22 bucks an hour plus 1 1/2 for overtime and working about 70 hr. weeks. I think that comes out to 80-90. Pretty long and hard work though.

 

I feel blessed to have landed the gig I got...32k a year and home daily and weekends..

 

Also study for and aquire the tanker/hazmat endorsements, plus get a passport & TWIC. These qualifications will get you into the high paying jobs quickly & that means $60K + per year jobs. These are not oilfield jobs either. The only person to stop you from those jobs, is you.
