Thanks. I was wondering the same thing, but was afraid maybe I was just to much a rookie to recognize the obvious, as I've never been around coils.

 

It's a lot of extra work, but if you hook your chains onto the frame or axle, then take them across to the opposite side of the trailer, in an "X". You can also wrap them around the axle, either with the hooks on the trailer on either side, or loop a hook to itself and pull with the binder.

The key is making a loop, either closing it with the binder, or using the binder to pull the loop to something else.

And you can use load straps, you just have to pull in opposing directions. Dealing with the excess can be a pain though.

I've done that with straps. Two on the center of the axles crossed over, opposite directions. Two more on the tongue one under-over one over-under. The problem is one gets loose the whole system fails. I don't get why light empty trailers are so squirrelly.

I think either 4 chains each on each corner, or 4 straps each corner plus 2 chains like I had them.

They are honestly more stress than they are worth.

I mean maybe 4 chains at each corner. Dunnage or blocking at the wheels. Straps on the tongue. Just to keep the dang things from walking.

 

Not sure you would want that one. Almost brand new and locked up tighter then a knats ###. I hauled it 200 miles so they could cut the crankshaft to remove the transmission.

 

What a shame.
