You could secure that train wheel load in probably 30 minutes. 4 chains and binders, plus a bunch if straps. It took me an hour because in the paper they give you, there are pictures in how they want it to look like. It showed the binder on top of the wheels not on the side. I struggled for 30 min and it was just at an awkward angle where I couldn't ratchet the binder tight enough. Once I decided to do it on the side it took just a couple minutes. Everyone else had binders on the side also so figured it was ok and it was.

Tug Toy and SOAthor Thank this.

Ths Kshaw, im another Flatbed wannabe as I enjoy a little hands on work, so its good to think that the average load doesn't take an hour to secure ...on top of having to wait for them to be loaded.

Next load up... steel beams 52ft long. Hard core rain flooded their yard and it was a mess securing it.

I'm gonna be honest... I've been doing flatbed for 5 weeks now. I plan half a day to load or unload. If I deliver and pick up that's about the whole day. Some places I'm in and out in 20 min but other places I'm like 6th in line. I would say an average is 2 hrs.

    SOAthor Thanks this.

Wow, thats as bad as I thought I would be. I sure as heck hope you get paid per drop on top of your mileage. I wonder if you would make more money getting paid by percentage, Im assuming you are paid by the mile..

I'm glad its going well for you and 85% sounds darn good compared to other numbers I've heard. I might think about OO after some experience but I doubt it , I hear nightmares about the insurance and repair costs., I do like the sound of getting paid by % if I were working in a regional area and this forum has taught me a lot more about flatbedding as is Youtube. thanks for the info.
