Yes be afraid very afraid. I loaded those super sacks of copper about a month or so back. Had to go down the street to their scrap yard to get empty and loaded weights. Walked every inch of their yard from the scale to the exit gate picking up any little piece of metal and i still ended up getting a big piece in one of my drive tires. Had to go to the ta to get it patched up. I hate places like that...

It wasn't crushed cars. Does this apply to shredded metal bales as well? I actually looked, and asked another driver. He said straps weren't illegal on this load, and you "strap and pray". So I just used a lot of edge protection where needed.

    Well, Frank’s hot red sauce.

I am not looking forward to strapping this...

    Well that sucked.

To many straps, not enough WAP.

Looks a lot like crushed cars to me, I personally don’t “strap and pray.” You won’t cut a chain.

It's shredded and crushed refrigerators, lawn mowers, that sort of thing. A car wouldn't fit in the shredder they had. I didn't "strap and pray" either. I used edge protection. Click on the pics, and you'll notice edge protectors and furniture blankets on every sharp edge. No different than strapping steel, or rock, or anything else. Not only did I not have any broken straps, I didn't even have any frayed straps when I got to point B.

    That’s good.
    This is just my opinion:
While technically you may be right, the rules do specifically state crushed cars. Shredded and cubed metal is shredded and cubed metal, no matter if it starts out as a refrigerator or as a Cadillac. The regulations for crash cars specifically forbid using straps, even with edge protection.

You got to load there safely, and that’s all it matters. I just know if I ever got conned into hauling shredded scrap metal I would probably use chains.
There’s only two loads I will absolutely refused to Haul on a flatbed, and that’s animal hides and crash cars.

How I would do it. As long as the strap doesn’t touch the load it’s legal. Much easier to tighten when you stop for load checks too. 66DE0A17-47EE-4818-9A14-C24313889F8A.jpeg

    Combined with short (5’) straps they are handy as a shirt pocket. D1826C8B-6612-4D92-82FD-2B765F794B63.jpeg 73C276CE-EAFA-477D-95D1-C5A0F2CDDDD1.jpeg 0F84BDDE-30C0-430B-AB9B-F96A6530DC8B.jpeg F650E5EE-61FD-426D-9612-19FB7A2AB72D.jpeg 25ABD348-B0ED-4A13-BEB9-C2F08799F363.jpeg
