Yeah many don’t have coil bags and have to make due, I’ve even wrapped a strap around the coil to hold the tarp tight. When I have to tarp a single coil I still use my six foot drop twenty seven foot lumber tarp.

Okay that's what I was wondering. Would it be worth it for you to purchase a coil bag to save the hassle of using the big lumber tarp?

Only if you do a lot of coils which I fortunately do not. :)

    Everyone is different...

If you tarp the coil properly, nice and tight you shouldn't need straps over the top...

Next time you see the company called Maverick ( Maroon trucks) look at how they do it, they know how to tarp coils very good and I have yet to see a single one of them use straps over the top, and nothing is flapping.

Most single coils can be tarped covering them completely with a 4 foot drop, I do it all the time... You just gotta play with it and get everything folded and tucked just right... It works...

And, if you see the majority of these guys that use coil bags half the time the coil is exposed at the bottom, thats just a claim waiting to happen. I wouldn't waste your money on one starting out...

    Just my opinion.

Think as you will about slightly exposed coils using coil bags, ive never had anyone mention anything with a coil bag, regular tarp 3 times

Each time it was because the full tarp doesnt let the product breathe, loaded cold, went to a warm place, boom, condensation. None of those times was there any precipitation enroute.

Could the lower portion exposed to air potentially be an issue? Yes, i argue that i have more *sides* exposed hauling tall coils with a tarp than i do with a bag. And so long as i can cover the face of the coil, the sides are the second most important. I will most often have a .... "ventilation gap" with my bag, but this has had no impact on receiving the coil satisfactorily, from 300 miles in the dry to 1000+ miles in monsoon season
