Pre Pass red light, but station sign said 'closed'

Need to keep the compliance sensors happy even when the sign says closed. Crummy situation.

 

I-40 scales run the "red" light a lot during the day when they are backed up. They run the closed sign for a reason. They don't want you on the inside lane going 10mph while traffic is going 70mph. Both the E/W scales have a long lead in, but they still run the red light when they get trucks out too far.

 

If the sign said closed, it is CLOSED.

Would you go into a gas station that was closed down because your "low fuel" light came on????

 

The major problem lies with the scale house. If the traffic is backing up and trucks have their rear ends hanging out on the highway, if the sign says closed because of it, the transponder should be set to over ride it for a green light.

Otherwise, this is the exact reason for a further backup of in cab red lights on everyone with a pre pass. Common sense granted, but ain't nothing common bout common sense anymore it seems.

If you had a camera in cab, certainly wouldn't hurt as a back up as to exactly what the driver saw as he approached, went on by and the footage as to why he did.

 

Or they can do like Ohio and turn off the pre-pass alltogether lol

 

Back when I had prepass, I would run into this occasionally. I always kept going and never had an issue, personally. The coop sign was flipped to closed for a reason, whatever it may be, they typically don't want trucks pulling in when it is. Heck, I've had them act irritated when I pull into a closed scale house with an oversize permit before when there were signs stating that 'all permit loads MUST stop'

 

You did right the closed sign over rides the prepass. In fact the sign always over rides the prepass period. Just like an officer directing traffic always over rides a traffic light. Don't pay attention to some of these other people they're just making mountains out of mole hills for God knows why. Maybe it makes them feel smart or something. Trucking is mostly common sense which you appear to have keep using it and you'll be fine. Remember the trucking industry is full of know it alls who know nothing. Mixed in that mess of know it alls you'll find some real diamonds. You've been out here 36 years so you know what I'm talking about.

 

Try reading the information that comes with the PrePass transponder... the transponder always, ALWAYS is the final word over the signs.

 

Most companies drivers get in a truck with a PrePass transponder and that is all they see... is the light green or red. No paperwork to go along with it.

I agree, if the scalemaster put up the closed sign they are closed for new traffic. Once the line goes down they will switch to open again.

 

If you can see the scale closed sign before the second sensor just put the pre pass under your leg and it will not trip a light. That's what I do.
