I cannot for the life of me empty these hoses. I've tried walking them several times but end capping them off and hauling them back with product still in them. My saving grace is the fact that I might pump off 1 in 10 loads, the rest the customer off loads.

I think my pump is weak and can't help but wonder if this bolt which I believe applies pressure to a rubber diagram is out of adjustment. Does it need to be all the way in or out? It's currently about halfway out.

Ok, when the pump empties out it is not going to clear the hoses. The pump pushes liquids, not air. U need a crows foot tee connection at the trailer so you can use N2 or air to push the hoses clean. Put a chuck on your truck...it will do the job.

The product belongs to the customer....does he have a dike around the tank ? A chemical drain? Will he provide you with some 5 gallon pails? Leave it there. Does he want to be a butt? No problem, follow below instructions and notify dispatch of a heel. He'll get sick of paying for heels real quick.

What? No drain? pails? and he wont let you use air / N2 to push clear? No problem, reverse the tee to the tank side and push it back in the trailer. The internal is spring caged so it acts like a check valve... push your oil back thru it closed and the oil will stay, roll up your stash , vent the wagon to atmosphere and roll on.....

What? He won't let you vent in his plant? No problem, open the valve outside the gate.

I get the same crap from Dow......along with pissy operators.

Oh, leave the bolt alone...leave it to an expert.

Exactly what I wrote but didn't post, lol. I was waiting.

Many times we just pressurized the tank and didn't use the pump.

That sounds real easy but I hate to get caught in a state that has some tough environmental laws.

Thanks for the tips. Yes I am going to try to clear them with air. When they load me, that's how they clear their lines. However they use so much pressure, the whole truck shakes. That's why I never thought about doing it off my truck.

You dont need much pressure to air the lines off. I have air plumbed from the trailer air tank to a ball valve just past the product valve. When empty, crack the ball valve just enough to hear the air hiss then walk the line out and shut customers tank valve off and bleed down the line pressure. It gets 99% of the product out.

What style pump do you have on the truck?

And where are you delivering that they don't provide air to at least assist in clearing the hoses, let alone help with offloading?

It's a Romans pump. I have searched for the model number but it's not on there. I deliver to oil distributers and like I said, 9 out 10 of them unload the product so this issue isn't that big of a deal. My main concern was if this was something I was doing or not doing. Next time I unload I'll either ask them for an air house or ask for a hand loading my hose....which is a bit heavy.

Some times that bolt your speaking of will back off. We run ropers and every now and then we have to turn them in 1.5 turns which will increase the pressure. You might want to have the packing changed out. We usually are able to shut the gate valve on the trailer to get the suction and open the ears of the camlock, we may have a pint left in the hoses, but we carry a closed tub to empty into.

packing nuts will back off or actually the packing wears and needs to be tightened. however that typically won't affect the pumps performance. just if it starts to leak from the shaft then its too loose and needs to be tightened. gear pumps don't pump air to save there lives so once the pump is no longer pumping liquid they don't do much. as mentioned a t with a airline can use truck air to push the hose out, close the valve from the trailer discharge and supply a little air to the hose and it should push 99& of the product out of the hose. or you can shut there valve reverse your pump and walk your hose back to your pump and put the product back in your trailer. if they have no way or place for you to unload that last few gallons out of your hose.
