I do not mean leave the trailer while under load. We don't leave our truck un-attended when we have freight on the truck even though we do keep a heavy lock on the doors. That is common sense as we are responsible for the freight.
As for taxi's isn't that extremely expensive just to be able to go out to a decent meal? When my son went to Chicago to visit his grandparents he took a taxi from the bus station to their house and was charge 75.00 for the trip of about 20 miles. When we started at Tri-State we returned the rental car and took a taxi the 2 miles from the drop off to the Tri-State terminal and was charged 17.00 for 2 miles. As for renting a car how do you rent a car when you would have to go to a car rental agency to rent it?
I started doing this because my husband wanted to do it when he retired from police. I am starting to think I should have stayed in the salon. I hate to say it but I could make in 2 days in the beauty salon what I make driving for the entire week. Unfortunately because we have been doing this for going on 2 years now I would have to totally rebuild my business to go back in the salon. Guess I am just down in the dumps right now about driving because I have been driving while sick, which I guess causes a little depression. Most of the time I do like this job. I just don't like not making money like we use to make and not getting any rest. I am sure once I start feeling better I will start liking it again. We just need to decide about sticking with a B license or upgrading to an A license. I was just reading some of the ripoffreports on other companys, especially Swift and the horror stories are awful. Are there any good companys? I must say after what I just read I am really wondering why the trucking industry treats drivers so poorly. We thought our company could be difficult at times but our company sounds like a saint compared to the articles I have just been reading?

Pardel, it was just another thought to take into consideration. Having a tractor trailer is not necessarily easier to get around in. The trailer is always on your mind.
Yes, taxis are expensive. But, for example, you will be sitting for 2 nights. You wouldnt want your truck to be outside a bar would you? I am not saying you drink. Its just an example. So, sometimes taxis are an option.
Maybe you should look into going back to what you like doing. Then at least there is less financial pressure on you guys. If its not working out as doing things as couple, then there are added stresses on the driving too.
I used to move pets in a box truck, and sleeping was horrible on the road, and I was always like a zombie. I loved the animals, I loved the route I had, but in general I didnt like it much.
Now I drive local LTL, and I am very happy doing it. Home every night in my own bed.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
By the way, Prisonerofthehwy is looking at box trucks with sleepers. His thread is http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...owner-operator/36864-box-truck-questions.html -

Thank you Etosha, no my husband and I do not drink or go to bars. Never have. We are both christian people that do not believe in that type of behavior. I believe on our first date my husband took me to a lounge type restaraunt. We neither ordered a drink, got to discussing it and found that neither of us were into that scene and was really uncomfortable with it. We have never been to a bar since that first date.
Yes, I have considered going back to what I really love, the beauty salon. I just don't want my husband to feel like I am deserting him in what he wants to do. Like I said I do like this job at times also (though I will admit I very much miss the social scene of the beauty salon, I have always been a people person) I admit I am just depressed right now mostly because of having to return to work while still so very sick with this awful flu. I believe being sick for almost a month with this is enough to depress anyone. The only real thing I am finding intolerable is the rest situation. How do people rest when the truck is always going? If I could solve this one issue I think I would be so much happier driving. I have always been a Dr Jekyle/ Mr. Hyde when it comes to my rest. -
You probably already decided on what to do, just wanted to mention that there are companies that will get you (or just your husband) home almost every weekend so that could be an alternative to your "unrewarding" class B driving. God bless!
