Purchasing a brand new truck. Please advice if you've done it.

    Depending on where you live the sales tax on a new truck can be $0 to 12,000 or more(not FET) state sales tax. You need to find out what your state law is and ask question of the state you buy in. Saving 12 grand is worth the trouble of a work around.

    You need to shop that around, I just priced a '16 780 with I-shift, XE package. NO APU, $142,000.

    I will only buy a new truck that I order and spec out from the air dam to the wheel seals myself. Cost is just one part of the picture. If the truck is spec'd properly for what you need, then the cost of worth it. I want every bit of insulation I can get in a cab and sleeper and I want to spec cabinets for the sleeper than meet my needs and not some fleet's. I want Conmet preset plus hubs on the steer axle. And the list goes on and on. Stacks of stuff I want to spec on a truck that many don't even consider, including dealers and the OEM themselves. I will never buy off a lot from what a dealer has sitting there. I have never seen a truck on a lot that was spec'd anywhere close to what I want. And I have never seen a package deal on a truck order that met my wants or needs. When it is done right, the cost doesn't mean as much simply because it is a keeper that you will hold onto for a long time and get every penny's worth of value out of it. And when spec'd properly, it will save you money in other ways that offset the cost as well.

    ^I'm right there with you! If it's not exactly what you want don't buy it.
    If you don't set things up just how you want them, you'll be disappointed every time you look at/use whatever option you passed up by buying something spec'ed for another job.

    I pull flat usually 70k plus Midwest, South, and West Coast. The only thing I like is flipping the switch back when going up a hill.

    I totally agree spending that much money you should get what you want/need. But like any salesman they will say something along the lines of "This T680 is very similar to what you want and I can save you xyz if you take a truck in stock."

    Guess what now you know approximately what kind of discount you should receive. Instead of going to the place you went to that said were no haggle the price is what it is.
