    Yes and no, no and yes, there are to many variables to it, WAY to much fuel not enough air on a diesel the exhaust temps get high. On gas engines lean will cause high exhaust temps but diesels love it..... S#it thats how they run........ LEAN. RAH RAH RAH RAH RAH RAH DETONATION! AT that point a gas burner goes BOOOOOOOOOOM.

    MPG could be alot better. Averaging close to 5.5 pulling insulated (smooth side) tanker; permitted for 80,000 gross wt.

    Well, 5.5mpg isn't really that bad for what you're hauling... Yeah, I forget we're talking about diesels here, lmao. I know for a fact in gasoline engines, the higher the EGT the leaner, and the lower the EGT, the richer. 500hp should be able to diagnose if you give him enough information about what exactly is happening.

    Depending on outside air temp, humidity and roads it will be up and down, anywhere from 900-1200*F.

    I had to cut it back some LOL.

    droy i recently test drove a 03 379 with a 475 bridge and the thing would hit 1100 bobtailing like nothing, my W9 would be up and down between 900-1150 depending on weather and terrain, around here in MI it would run around 1000 and on occasion it would run 1100, especially on a windy day where the engine has to work harder.

    The "check engine" light on my truck is telling me that SOMETHING isn't right, and the suspect parts are not that expensive, I just hate changing what don't need changing. Not a good mindset, I know. Probably would recoup the cost in short time with the gain in fuel mileage.
    Also need to get problem corrected before I start any mods on the engine.

    Droy I have a friend with a 475/1850 MBN his temps are way up there the same as what mine used to be.
    The first year I had the MBN I was told by a guy that all I needed to do to get alot better power and MPG's was pinch the wastegate line off. So I did and as soon as I got to the first hill and made the manifold pressure rise above 30 psi, it derated the engine to 70%. The reason I know it was 70% was I have a display in the dash that tells me all my engine info. I was wondering if from what you have been describeing if your engine hasn't derated itself for some reason? Also when the Diagnostic lamp flashes check engine, and you do a diagnostic check what codes does it flash to you? Have you tried taking a snapshot of what your engine is doing when you are pulling as hard as it will pull, and then getting a authorized cat shop to download the info?

    Hooked up to computer three times since owning this truck;
    Once at local, VERY reputable independent shop
    Twice at South LA Kenworth
    NO CODES!
    (Yellow "check engine" light on overhead printed circuit panel) flashes when engine starts pulling hard, hills, bridges, overpasses, now also when going through the gears if I'm gouging on it. If I let up, or level off where it's not working hard, light goes away.

    I did plug the wastegate!
    Shortly after buying the truck, I noticed the short section of hose under the turbo was dryrotted, brittle, pieces broken off exposing inside of hose and piping to outside air. Purchased a replacement hose, few days later, and it's still setting on back seat of my p/u. Why didn't it install itself? Think it's defected? I know my failing memory is not the problem.:biggrin_25518:
