Pyrometer for C15 single turbo MBN; How hot is too hot?

Better yet,get a snapshot when pulling a hill and your light is flashing,then get somebody with the Cat program to retrieve your snapshot and read it.

i have 98 KW with 6TS if check engine light comes on I have to get it before i turn key off or i can't get with out going to shop. is this normal or am i doing something wrong.

 

Droy, what brand of pyro did you buy? I see autometer ones in my racing magazine with thermalcouple. I don't see why I can't get me one of those. However any suggestions and thoughts will appreciated. I don't want to by the wrong one. I read were dds suggested to mount thermalcouple. My exhaust has a bung welded in about 6 inches downstream from turbo with pipe plug installed.

 

Thats fine to put the thermocoupler in there

 

Just a question. How do you melt pistons? Running the turbo too hot?

 

Yes running over 1200 degrees sustained temperature will melt the engine. The pistons especially as they are aluminum.

 

So if you get it that high, and stuff starts to melt, what happens? Then engine just quits or what??

 

Well a multitude of things could happen. A piston could crack and send the rod out the block, or a hole right in the piston. Baisically the end result is a new engine.

 

First thing that will happen is the rings will melt and engine will develop excessive blow by, anything could happen, even a big BOOM.
