DUI is not a mistake....IF you make your living with a drivers license, then you are held to a higher standard....its called professionalism , or the lack of it. Any class a CDL holder is a least 21 years old, and should be mature enough to realize that plain simple fact. The graveyards and cemeteries are full, of the victims of those "given a 2nd chance"

I didn't realize Jesus drove trucks, I thought we were all real people that share common problems and mistakes like all people, my bad. Live and learn.

I would have appealed that, that is really stretching the definition of DUI. That kind of interpretation is dangerous because it would encourage drunk driving because one could say "well if I'd get busted anyways". Essentially a guy waiting in his car for a tipsy tow could be busted for DUI. Its DRIVING under the influence, not sitting in a parked car under the influence.

Thank you for the responses. I didn't put the circumstances because in a way it really didn't matter. I don't drink, never have mostly bacause I grew up with two alcoholics. One stupid mistake can get someone killed.

This is something that I think. IF a CDL holder can't drink, why should a doctor, policeman, fireman, paramedic, nurse...etc while "off duty" on their free time? Paramedics, police, fireman drive AT work..... doctors and nurses have to drive TO work. Now when I was a paramedic the company I worked for stated that if you got a DUI you could not drive their ambulance.... but you still had a job, not all are that way though.

Actually his ticket was for operateing a moter vehicle while intoxicated.... car running in parking lot, waiting for friend to pick him up, January, Ohio, bar closed. why drinking? well lets just say that most ppl would have tied one on, except a saint that is. Does it matter? No, OVI, DWI, DUI... whatever... most companies still won't hire. Thus the reason I asked. I have little sympathy most of the time. ( maybe for the young and dumb cause that will haunt them forever... and it should)

so...its not ok to "act superior" about someone committing a crime, but its ok for you to act superior?
perhaps i am a little harsh on dui (my preferred system of punishment would be far more similar to china's than ours), but then i have to live with the consequences. my wife was hit my some ******* who decided that POINT TWO THREE wasnt too drunk too drive, and she has permanent back injuries as a result.

and someone said dui is not a mistake. they are correct. dui is a CHOICE. you choose to get drunk, you choose to get into your car/truck, you choose to have total disregard for everyone but you. ill go further. if you hurt or nkill someone, you have CHOSEN to hurt or kill someone. vehicular manslaughter in this case is crap. it is murder.

Its still a ######## charge. A person who is intoxicated in a parked vehicle is of no threat to anyone unless he drives. I would like to know how many people were charged this way and it gets lumped in to DUI to pad the statistics.

Well concidering you can get a DWI walking down the sidewalk in some states, it would be interesting to know.

Not to be sarcastic or anything, but IF they created a law stateing that anyone holding a CDL couldn't drink alcohol at all, how many of you would be up in arms? The way some posts read you don't drink anyway...so what would be the difference? And please don't say their is a difference between haveing A drink and being drunk.... cuase for some one drink is ALL it takes to impare them, they may not blow over the limit, but they shouldn't drive anyway.

BTW it would bother me, but only because it would be a LAW. I don't drink at all, so it wouldn't effect me.

Never once did I have the urge to have a beer and drink. My friend was killed by a drunk driver a few years ago, so you're not getting a shroud of pity from me. IMO, you should never even drive a 4-wheeler after 1 DUI. A mistake? All it takes is 1 time to kill someone. Holier than thou? Are you kidding me? Not all of have made a mistake big enough to potentially kill someone, as some of us are responsible enough to cherish our license and follow the laws therein. If you aren't responsible enough, you don't need to be driving anything. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

    *edit*

Also, don't ever put a DUI in the same category as a 'simple mistake' again, thinking we aren't any better than a drunk behind the wheel who killed someone.
