I'll respectfully take issue with that statement.

Although they may be quite rare, there may be situations where you'll need to use the accelerator quickly, and you won't be able to do that if you're searching for the right gear.

Technically, you should be downshifting. :biggrin_25524: People who don't downshift are placing more wear on there breaks. :biggrin_25524: If you are loaded out, that's almost 80,000 pounds behind you. Yes it is easier to stop when you are empty, however if you keep yourself in a good habbit of doing this the right way you will save yourself and your employer alot more time and money. If your down for service that is costing you your time which is your money that you are working so hard for. Think of it as time and money management. The more you save your company the more your saving yourself. It works on both ends, not just one.

    Original Poster,

Yes, you will learn the tricks of the trade, after school is finished.

I still can't find any regulation about not shifting when crossing tracks !!!!!!

You certainly do not have full control in neutral. I make it a habit to stay in the correct gear, maybe because I drive a tanker, and I feel I have better control over the truck. Most handling problems require acceleration to get the suspension to react and stabilize. Very difficult to apply power starting in neutral. It is possible since I pull alot of liquid loads in smooth bore trailers I may have different habits. But I can not imagine the advantage of not being in gear.

I knew this was the law, but I drove an automatic at the last company and it would shift while on tracks.
