    For snowy/icy conditions, I chain the front drive axle, the reason being that the chains with chew up the road surface a bit and provide the bare tires on the rear axle some grip. In off road conditions where we are usually working, if I am chaining for mud or muskeg, anything that might try to swallow the truck, I chain the rear axle on the rare occasions that I'm not chaining both. The reason is, If you bog down and have to get pulled, It's common for your front mud flap to get pushed into the tire as you're being dragged out and the chains WILL hook onto the anti-sail bracket and rip the fender off the truck.
