So... sometimes I feel compelled to remind folks that not all of us four-wheelers are knuckleheads. -
no not all 4's are bad, i agree so please so not take offense if you are not an "offender". granted there are some 4's that are considerate and even helpful to big trucks, and to them i give cudos, but the ones who aren't are the ones that really strip my gears. they are dangerous. and do cause alot of the accidents trucks are getting blamed for. i was not intending to put all 4's in this catagory. b4 i got my cdl's i used to wonder and get aggrivated by the lic. test for general driving. the questions about semis on the regular test made no sense to me. however now i see the need for more education about driving on the roads with semis. the interstate system was accually built and designed for trucks and although autos are allowed to utilize this fast track to everywhere there are (most) 4 wheelers who think they own the interstate system and find trucks to be a hindrence.........i don't mind sharing the road, but safely. we deffinalety need a better education system for new lic. drivers. maybe driver training programs should/could do a better job of informing the public on driving education.

I believe that this is a ME first world. Some people in 4 wheelers generally don't give a care about anyone else on the road. It doesn't matter if you are in a truck or a car.
I also believe that before anyone can get a driver's lisense they should have to ride in a big truck for a certain amount of time. I have had friends ride with me on short trips and they are amazed at what i put up with on a daily basis. They always tell me that they have learned something and will put it to good use. -
I agree with that. I just finished up my first week at RDTC and saw some crazy things--namely when we were coming up to the intersection with two cars coming down the road from the right. Sure, they had a stop sign, but they saw the big rig with the flatbed coming and apparently that overrules the stop sign. One car blew through and went straight, the other turned right (in front of us) and you wouldn't have known there was a stop-sign there.
I think everyone here needs to remember they were also a four-wheeler at one time. I've always been courteous to truckers. If I think they need extra room at a four-way when I have traffic behind me, I stop farther back so he doesn't have to wait for every car behind me before he can make the turn. It's the little things like this that can cheer a trucker up a little and make him have a little more faith in people. I'd like to say there are the bad truckers, too. I was driving home on I-94 from school a few years back, it was pouring out, and as I was passing the truck he just turned into my lane and ran me off the road. I try not to categorize people by color, vehicle, ethnicity, etc., as it just makes people hateful and rude, and noone needs that stress.
I'm not sure 4-wheelers should have to ride with a trucker, but they should at least educate them. Show them some videos of things cars do, how long it takes a semi to stop, what the result is of cutting off a semi, how long it takes to get a semi to 70 MPH, how long and how much space a semi needs to make a corner, what happens when you DO rear-end a semi, show them that a semi hitting a car at 20MPH is enough to snap a person's neck, etc. -
I'm one of those 4 wheelers who tries to be show total respect to those vehicles bigger than my own. ESPECIALLY those with over 4x the wheels that I have! I don't want to be smooshed...so I give you big guys PLENTY of space, and realize that just because I see you doesn't mean you necessarily see me, and I give you as much braking time as I possibly can and will even slow down to let you over if I see your blinker on, with or without traffic around.
But...I gotta admit I get annoyed when I hear ya'll lumping us 4 wheelers together into a 'mass idiot' clump. It's also a bit frightening to hear some of the anger towards 'us'. We ALL have to remember that one of those truckers could be our husbands, uncles, dads....and one of those 4 wheelers could be your mom, kids, or your whole family.
I agree that everyone who is given a license should be taught more about big-rig's...because there ARE a whole lot of idiots out there who put you and I in alot of danger with their stupidity, they probably tick me off as much as they do you.
But if one of you big guys rides up on unnecessarily on my little ###(if only it really WERE little! LOL!)....be prepared to receive the bird and some nasty glares & cursing.Show me no respect and I'll show you none either.

The Smith system teaches truck drivers to put a face of a near relative or dear friend in each of the vehicles immediately surrounding the truck. It helps the driver to be a wee bit safer. All tho I really get tired some days of having to drive for myself and the morons among us.
Yourself and Ducks excluded from that group. -
(can't ALWAYS be so *perfect*! LOL!!!!!!)

How about cars that 'want to pass' us, so the pull into the passing lane, and they sit nice and comfortably behind our trailer... Never quite understood why they wont just pass and be done with it, or if they arent going to pass, just get out of the passing lane and let other traffic by.
Today I was trying to pass another truck which was ahead of me, and one of these 4 wheelers pulls out ahead of me, into the passing lane, and will NOT go past the back of the trailer of the truck I was hoping to pass... oh my...
