I agree they don't stand a chance of keeping people, but one of the guys in the office was on the smoking deck and said they only have 2% stay a year. There are about 5 companies with really bad reputations, and I am with one of them. I had a back injury three years ago, and even though I have MRI tests and doctor's notes saying I have healed, nobody wanted to talk to me. That left me without many options to get back into driving. i have to get some time in service to prove I am really able to return. I do plan to put in some time, but I really don't want to end up fighting a losing battle on the DAC.
Quiting the job without damaging the DAC?

Yeah that's called turnover. It runs in excess of 150% with some carriers.
What's interesting is the way they combat it..........
In chemical manufacturing if we experience a failure ( of people, machines, processes etc) we investigate it and identify what happened. Once we have that we fix it so it doesn't happen again.
This applies to the people too. If one is hurt, one leaves or one tears something up...we find out why and we fix it.
Trucking is just the opposite, drivers leave carrier "A" in droves. The whole fleet flips in less than 8 months....do they find out why? No! The hire a recruiting and retention manager and the door keeps swinging.
All they need do is find out why people like Walmart have a waiting list and do the same thing.
And they say drivers are stupid ! -
Rerun is correct! I too left during day one of orientation and it showed up on my DAC as working for them and being released. Stay away from these mega-carriers and you will not have these problems.

PST said i was long haul, 48 states, and canada.....
subject to re-hire under review......
uh......
i never got out of the orientation classroom.....!!!
still took me a LONG time to get PST information removed from my DAC....but then only a few short years later, they "went under" and i had them completely removed.......and as such, never had to list them again on any applications.....it was only a week of my time, so accounting for a week isn't a big deal....!!chompi Thanks this. -
Last job I went to orientation April 7, 2008. Hire date is April 9, 2008. Kind of hard for a company to make a DAC report when you aren't legally an employee yet. Don't let them walk over you and contest the entry.wulfman75 Thanks this. -

dont you think those costs and expenses will have to assigned to a driver/SS# for taxes?
at the very least taxes will be owed on the comcheck that most companies give out while attending their orientation classes, its not just a gift, and even if it was a gift, taxes would still be owed on the gift!!
In order to withhold taxes or issue any payment a person has to be employed.
My $ .02cents opinon. -
Yes you can fight it. If there is something on your DAC that you don't agree with you can write a letter or email and explain your situation. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Best way to avoid all of that though is to stay away from the mega-carriers!

I'd say the only way you'll be hurt is you keep dealing with the mega carriers, all the DECENT companies out there know how the mega carries can jack someone around, and usually will look at it as just that and ignore it if you present yourself right,

Hey Rambler,
The best advice is to avoid the mega trucking companies. This place just announced that their "new business model necessitated a change". It was the whole class and future classes. They said they can do that because they had not actually hired us until the "school" was finished.
Yes I did know better then this company, but because I had been off due to medical I had to do something to get "back in the game". I just need some time to prove that really am able to go back to work.
Isn't it a shame when someone wants to work and has to just through all these hoops....
