    Actually a Cobra 29 is a bit bigger than a DIN sized radio. DIN size is 2"H x 7"W. Cobra 29's and the like are a bit bigger at 7 5/16" x 2 3/16".
As far as the speaker placement on most radios, it's not really good due to it firing down. Not too bad if you were mounting it on the overhead like we did "back in the day", but not so good for top of the dash or "cubby" mounting. Plus the speakers are usually junk. Many use an external speaker for just that reason.
Now to beat the proverbial dead horse............before moving up to a more powerful and expensive radio, attention must be payed to the antenna system on your truck. Otherwise you're just throwing money over your shoulder.

A lot of times when you see those extra "half inches" or whatnot around it, that's the size of the faceplate, not the box itself. It just depends.

And it doesn't matter how much you spend, you get 4 watts. They can't legally sell you a radio with more than that. The more "powerful" radios are simply radios that have been tuned by aftermarket tuners for more power. I have a 50 dollar Uniden 510XL that can be turned up to about 15 watts. Certainly not expensive, but can put out 3 times the legal power of a 500 dollar Connex out the box.

I don't get these makers of these radios, they should stick to DIN standards for the no frills radios.

So it sounds like it's virtually identical to the original old version with some minor superficial changes.

*NEWS* Anytone AT-6666 Pro Enters Production This WeekThe AT-6666 PRO is a totally new board with many more features than it's predecessor. A bit more power, DSP noise reduction on TX and RX, a new microphone and many other features not present on the older model.
Biggest question is going to be the price point! The new President Washington is supposedly the same radio, but is pretty pricey at $400+! We'll see.............

From what I have read, the Washington was based on the new Quad 6...........I could be mistaken.
Check out the differences between the old and new versions of the CRT 9900, which I think you'll agree is a Quad 6 with the CRT branding.

I think you would agree that this is a totally new board.
