Also, when looking for a new job, what is considered experience? I ask because I do have a year of logged drove time, but some of it was with my permit, as a got my cdl with my current employer. And a question about logging, have had a couple times where the drive distance was only a mile or two, and took maybe 5 minutes, is it wrong to log it on line 4 if the city/town doesnt change?
My trainer told me your experience starts when you are in your own truck. Up to that point you are still a trainee... But I saw some guy who upgraded the week before i did claiming he's got his six months already. Got my license the end of may but didn't get in my truck until July, so I'll start worrying about around August, lol
You reach the bottom of a steep grade & realize your brake linings on the trailer are flaming/on fire; what do you do? This happened to me twice hauling tanker/hazmat, but I knew how to solve the problem. What's the answer? Question : If your jake brake isn't holding you back enough on a steep grade, how do you hold your speed down without causing the trailer brake linings to catch fire? This works 99.99% of the time.
exactly what i was thinking i typically grease my fifth wheel whenever i reconnect. i drop my air, back under without touching, and then re-inflate
Use your fire extinguisher. If you jakes arent holding you back enough you press on the brake til it slows you down 5 mph less than you current speed. Release, so the brakes can cool down, let your speed increase to 5 more mph then apply the brake and continue that and hope and pray you don't see fire or smoke. when apply the brakes do it smoothly and evenly.
I think stab braking was the better answer. When you're on a 7% grade its a little late pick a lower gear. Can it be done? sure, but if you miss that gear you might never make it down alive. Downshifting on a downgrade is a last resort.
Here's one on HOS. Any experienced driver can solve this one easy, but I've had to help a lot of new guys with this. It's 1800. You are 6 hours away from your delivery, and you have time on your clock to make it, but the delivery is at 0830. Your 14 runs out at 0200, and there is no parking at, or immediately surrounding the receiver. How do you make it on time?
