Hello new poster I am hoping someone can help me with some knowledge!

I replaced my 2015 400 hp Cummins isx with a rebuilt 2015 450 hp Cummins isx. Unfortunately, I cannot get the truck to communicate with the engine! Come to find out that the 2015 engine is actually a EPA 2016 build. right now the ecm for new engine will not communicate with the truck and the ecm from the old engine will not recognize the engine. Both ecms run the engine. I spent 3000 dollars at freightliner after installing the engine only for them to suggest that I take out the new engine and get a different one. I did learn that the communication baud rates are different, with 2015 engines communicating at 250k baud rate and 2016 communicating at 500k baud rate. I had Cummins change the setting on the new ecm for 250K baud rate... but the truck still will not recognize the engine and I get no gauges or lights. I Got a very expensive paperweight! Is it possible that i need to do something with the CPC4 chassis module? I did check with Cummins and the engine harness is identical for both years. I need some suggestions or information on where i can go from here do i have to convert the engine somehow back to 2015 specs? I am lost.... I spent 25K and have nothing to show for it.... both the engine installer and freightliner are unable to help. Any ideas? Truck is located in Boise Idaho.

Please provide truck info and ESN’s for old and new engines.

Do you still have the ECM from the original engine?

Not sure if you can check with Pittsburg power. I think they do stuff with the ECM and such. I have never used them but heard them talk about it a time or two. Sure lots of people hate them as well but just a suggestion.

The base engine is the same though is it not? Same sensors, actuators etc?

My 2014 Pete ISX 15 had a recon dropped in on 2016. Cummins dealer did the swap. I bought it in 2020. Runs flawlessly since I had it.

    Siinman Thanks this.

Even though the connections couple together, is there a chance the pin layout is slightly different?

Oxbow, Siinman and AModelCat Thank this.

According to a vin decoder the engine came out of a 2017 cascadia and I am putting it into a 2016 cascadia I don’t understand why it won’t communicate!
