Not sure why but when it comes to tandem differentials with interlock and or 4 way posi lock there is a lot of miss understood and skewered info that gets thrown around .
Reminds me of people with a electrical problem. First thing outta anybody mouth is check the ground..

Give him the truth, the whole truth and nothing but.

The parts are going to all over the floor....the broken part will have to be purchased and may take up to a week to come in. Then the rear end has to reassembled. ..labor rates are charged by the hour and then the cost of downtime, you know its days or weeks with truck sitting in the bay generating zero income. A loss of revenue X days = loss.

TRUCK Expenses continue even when truck is out of service.

    BOTTOM LINE.......? (How much)

I just had a new front diff swapped in earlier this year. The part itself was $2394. I called the shop and they had the new one built a week ahead of time so all they had to do was swap it out.

As for the labor, not sure because they did a bunch of other work at the same time. I know it didn't take long at all to swap it. I that's all I would have had done, I'd have been out of there before lunchtime, same day.

"A couple of years ago I had a blown turbo pump on a 2011 Cascadia, $11,000 ( under warranty) after everything...half was labor.....and a week later the differential started grinding ( tow truck driver pulled the axle and did not put them back in correctly)..... When I got to the terminal, they told me a day or two....after two days I went to the shop and they told me another week waiting on parts as I looked at the whole rear end spread across the floor like a gutted hog..... boy was I P.O. Now I was looking a two weeks with no miles....no pay!"

But hey, the boss stepped up like a nice guy and said, Dusty, go pick out any truck on the yard waiting to be detailed....hooah!
