States will automatically downgrade your license from a class A to a C if you do not self certify.

All he has to do which I cannot understand why he has not contacted PA DMV already and talk to them.

He is not going to get the answer he wants on TTR. PA DMV is the only authority that will get him the information

He should have gotten a letter from the PA DMV stating they will downgrade his license. Did he get that and ignore it?

Self certification came out 2-3 years ago and ALL CDL holders had to self certify.

So wait till Monday and get it from PA DMV.

OK, sorry for reviving this necro post, but I got some awesome news. First, if you have any questions for the dmv, do not call them, actually go in and ask.

Shortly after I started this thread I called the dmv and they told me since it was past 90 days I would have to retake my permit and skills test. Well that just ruined my day. I had been considering my options for a few weeks while I was doing some work at home consulting for a software company. One day my nephew needed a ride to the dmv to get a new state ID so I took him. While I was there I asked the clerk what I needed to do to retake my cdl permit test. As he was getting the forms I explained what happened. He immediately stopped and asked if I had renewed my license after it was downgraded. I told him no, it doesn't expire until 2019. He smiled and told me I still have a CDL. He handed me a form to fill out (self certify exempt) and said to bring that back with $33 and birth cert, or in my case passport as I keep that one handy at home. I rushed home and grabbed the checkbook and my passport, filled out the form, and drove back to the dmv. He filled out my forms and provided me a duplicate license which was upgraded back to CDL status and I just need to self certify with my dot physical card before I drive a commercial vehicle.

I should be back on the road by the end of the year and I can't wait!

A bit late to this question. But since my license doesn't expire until 2022. And let's say right now in January of 2020 I don't renew my dot physical. All I have to do Is get a new don't physical before 2022 when my card expires to keep myself from having to do road test and obstacle course etc again? Thanks. @Chinatown

Better ask the DMV because states write their own rules on that. I think Florida is pretty lenient, but better ask anyway.
