Let's try this again, did you do a dyno on the motor before to see what was going on?

The problem is eating coolant around number 3 and number 5.

If you rebuild it with 1.4 million just remember you only get like 1 year warranty because it over 1 million miles on the block

A used engine with about 700k is about 8k and another 3k to get it in. How long will it last?

A complete in frame with Detroit parts and warranty will be 15k.

I can get a reman for 15k from Internet shops like internetdiesel.com but only a 6 months warranty. Has anyone heard of these guys?

A Detroit reman with full Detroit warranty is 30k. That's a lot of $

I'm going with the full inline. Priced right and full warranty.

Before you go buying parts, should you decide to rebuild it. No matter who is doing the work have the engine disassembled and have the engine block checked to see if it needs repair as well as the crank. With as many miles that you said the engine has, replacing other parts is going to be just as important like the bull gear etc.

If you plan to keep the truck for only a couple of years, I would just rebuild it. If you want to keep it for several more years, I would install a drop in reman engine. Rebuilding versus replacing is comparing apples to oranges. The cost difference cannot be compared on any scale because they are two completely different things. Installing a drop in will always be significantly more expensive. But, you are getting a totally 100% freshened engine. During even the most thorough inframe rebuilds, it can never 100% refresh the engine. A complete drop in will be ALL gaskets and seals, all new wiring harness, new geartrain and so on. There is a huge list of parts and seals that never get touched during a rebuild which can lead to severe problems. Also, when the engine is out, this is a good time for new motor mounts, or new clutch or whatever else is super easy to replace with the engine out of the way.

These guys used to advertise in Truck Paper years ago. Have no idea if they still do?
Talked to them & they seemed knowledgeable, though have never spoke with anyone who has done business with them. May be worth a call?

    You have an oppertunity here.

That is a Classic you have there. Rebuild the cab interior, drop a full Detroit warranty protected engine in there plus whatever else is discovered bad when the motor was out being replaced. You are going to spend about half the cost of a used Cascadia? And by the number of posts about Cascadias here on TTR it's a truck with problems.

You would prefer to be very intimate knowing what is going on with your truck that should be good for another 10 years. Then maybe at that point you will be wanting out and go get another truck or get retired etc. Depending on where you might be in 5 to 10 years.

It's yours and it's paid for I assume. That is way golden compared to making payments all over again on a used truck that will reach 1. something million miles presenting you with a endless treadmill.

If you like the tractor, give it a good engine and a decent interior sealed against cold, heat and weather. Roll on.

In my day tractors go 30 years plus. Engines? Rebuild em or drop replacements in, always cheaper than buying a used or new tractor with potentially unknown headaches waiting for you.

We just rebuilt a engine on one of the cars we expect it to run at least another 10 years with proper maintenance. Another is fixing to get a ignition replacement but everything else is still sound. To a certain degree of wear and tear.
