Reweigh question I've never thought about asking before

    I figure that if there's going be a truckers website, there should be more to the site than the typical gloom and doom and crying. You had a problem, you had a good question. When problems get resolved, it's good to hear about the solution.

    You said something about sliding your 5th wheel? The tandems would go up far enough? I really don't like moving my 5th wheel, personally. One thing I'd like to mention, whether or not you pay full price at the scale doesn't really matter. Just think how much fun you'd have if you're cited for an overweight axle condition, or if something goes wrong on your trip and you have a collision with unbalanced axle weights.

    I only slide my 5th wheel as a last resort and this is only the 3rd time in over 6 years I have done so and immediately put in back in the setting I want it in after the load is delivered. In this case I once I realized it wasn't going to be legal at put it back at my setting and had them rework it accordingly.

    As as far as paying full price it wasn't really a big deal either way but when I jumped on the scale hours later I just wanted to see if my reweigh number would still be valid. Why pay more of you don't have to

    I was told by TS employee it is good for 24 hours then have to do a new ticket.

    Sliding the fifth wheel only changes the weight distribution between steers and drives, right? I don't see how that solves an overweight issue. If the weight on the drives is so close that sliding the fifth wheel is all it takes to get down to legal weight, why not just augment the weight distribution with fuel stops? Early on I weighed my empty tractor and then fully fueled tractor to know what a tank of fuel weighs on steers and drives so the load weight is almost entirely unaffected by the fifth wheel position. Maybe some freight is different and I'm just not understanding this tactic to address axle weights.

    i had had a load once where I was like 34300 on the drives and 33900 on the tandems. So sliding the 5th wheel to put more weight on the steers was the only way to get it legal.

    At Cat Scale you get 24hrs for a $2.00 reweigh. BUT it has to be at the same Cat Scale. I run Tanker at will get a empty(or loaded) weight. Then go and load (or unload) and go back and get my other wieght for $2.00.
