You need something with a firm schedule...and don't drive a truck that has a bed in it.

    MissShawna and TruckDuo Thank this.

Brother needs to run team with you otr.
Be better off if you have no children.
2years y'all could buy 5 houses each if you don't waste your money.

    All depends where u live.

You might not even need a cdl if you can find a mail contractor.
I found one and do it on weekends.
Pays the same as the ltl guys and I drive 4 hours in a straight truck from Louisville to st Louis. Sleep when the other guy drives back.

Paid by the hour. Its a pretty sweet setup.

Go drive around and look for companies parked that own day cabs.

    MissShawna Thanks this.

Hi MissShawna, (nice tractor) Being just out of school limits you considerable. Without any seat time, most will require you to do a team thing, most assuredly OTR. The local stuff is like others say, food service, beverage hauling, and even then, may start out as a helper. Freight outfits ( ABF, Con-Way, etc) are home every night, but probably won't hire a new driver. New drivers generally go with megas, as that's the easiest way to get experience and make money at the same time. Good luck.

    MissShawna Thanks this.

Thank you everyone for your input and advice. I am from Ohio and my brother is only 14 so he can't team up with me just yet. I previously said that his college fund depended on my decisions but it doesnt entirely. My fiancee is starting his career in politics so I can accept taking a paycut in the beginning to get my foot in the door as long as I am home every night. I just get nervous when it comes to making a decision because I don't want to be that one driver that switched companies 5 times in the first 6 months of their career, ya know?
