Just signed my final paperwork, all is well, should be out with a trainer pretty soon.

I applied March 20th and received an offer letter on March 26th. As I was overseas (Thailand) at the time of the offer, I had to get back to the States before I could do my physical and get a class start date. Also, I had to renew my CDL License, Hazmat endorsement and get my TWIC card taken care of. So I got back to the States on April 16th, and did my physical on the 24th. On the 26th, I got my class start date of May 13th. So most of the delay was on my part, once the physical is done and reviewed by Safety at Roehl, then everything goes pretty fast.

TWIC = Transportation Workers Identification Credential. You don't need the TWIC card for RDTC, but you may need one later if you are pulling flat beds.

Physical is done at a clinic that Roehl has a contract with, it won't be your family doctor, but it should be near your home, where I went was about 2 miles away.

Yes, you will need to get CDL Permit. Depending on the state, I think you have to have the physical before you can get the permit.

Once you study the sections needed for the CDL permit (General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles) then I recommend doing the practice tests they have on this site (Truckers Report . com), it's very helpful.

Thanks again Brian. Roehl helps in the process of obtaining the twic if needed?

I did the TWIC card myself before going to Roehl. But I don't think they will help with it. BTW, the cost for the background check for it is $129.75.

For Hazmat fingerprinting, that is expensive too, it cost me $148.50.

Hoping I can write if off on taxes.

I wouldn't bother with the TWIC if not required. I was one of the first guys to get one at Roehl when they wanted us to get one. I never used it once in the year and half I was there after I got it. If a company wants a driver to get a TWIC card they should pay for it not the driver.

    buckandducks,

I agree with what you say. I got the TWIC card to add to my portfolio in case I needed it, as I'm sure you know the lead time on getting one takes a while and being out on the road does not always allow one to just pull up and apply for such things as needed....so I got mine in the event it was needed it in the future.

That is true. We both live by ports so it probably easier for us than others who do not.
