i did furniture for years but for HHG agent,so ask if you have to also pay for any claims...i.e. you or your helper drops furniture, niks it on the way up to that THIRD FLOOR IN THE SUMMER HEAT..it's really hard to keep a helper in that line of business,bc they wear out fast!... BUT you're labor that you pay out is 100% deductible,I'd say IF you chose this,I'd incorporate my business for sure.
Its a lot of work and the customers are always complaining and want you to pay for it.

yeah I know all about the customers I moved furniture in ny for 7 years and getting someone that can lift the other end without hurting you or the furniture is tough to find or someone that was willing to do 20 floor walk ups in the city when the service elevator wasn't working or furniture wouldn't fit... thanks for the info

I was an Owner Op for Rooms To Go (SEIDS) for 1 year in Raleigh NC. I don't know what kind of work you are currently doing but this is not an easy job. Your in Myrtle Beach so a lot of your first floor deliveries are going to be equal to a second or third floor delivery. Once you and your laborer get a system things start to flow a lot better but the start will be rocky. In 2011-2012 when i was doing it Insurance was 277 a week 3 weeks out of the month 9972 a year. But that covers truck trailer and occ/acc for you and your worker. I budgeted 500 a week for fuel somedays your total route will be 80 miles and somedays you will have 300 mile routes. The money is very inconsistent, some weeks you will gross 3200 and some you will gross 1700 and work just as hard. You are paid on load revenue, for us in Raleigh it was 3.5% of the retail value. Really anything less than that and you are going to starve. Greensboro NC gets 2.6% and this seems to be about the company wide average. You are 100% responsible for any damage done in a persons home, if you don't resolve the issue within in 7 days RTG will take care of it but will charge you what they paid and usually tack on a little extra. If you have customer complaints it will be a $100 fine, if you don't turn the knobs on a dresser $100 fine, if you send a trailer back with the cardboard not consolidated it was a $200 fine. A lot of the fines they will levy on you are not in the contract. Do not get caught up in taking your truck to there contracted shop and have them bill it to you because you will pay the repair bill and RTG will charge you some on top. If your truck breaks down and you can't complete your load or for some reason you can't run your load at all that day they will get another driver to do it and RTG will ask the driver how much he will charge to do the route and they will hold it from your pay. There is also a $4000 escrow you will have with them taken out at $100 a week for the first 40 weeks.

All of that said in 1 year i paid only $1300 in claims, one was an $1100 claim we messed a guys ceiling in walls up we were very green still.
A total of $300 in RTG fines 1 trailer returned improperly and $100 for not turning knobs.
I grossed right at 120k and netted about 60k. I paid my helper $750 a week. Most guys pay their help $500.

If you pay your help low money, keep your damages down, work Mondays, and run double routes you can make decent money. But Tuesday-Saturday sucks, you can have 85 pieces today paying the truck $700 today, and 85 pieces tomorrow paying $390. You will work your butt off, and anything less than 10 hours is a treat. My helper and I rolled, we had a system down and we were knocking it out in 8 hours.

You are not going to get rich doing this. But if you are looking to become and owner op for relatively cheap start up costs this will work. I cant say anything bad about my time there because I made more than what i was making as a company driver at Con-Way Freight, and they provided me an opportunity to better myself.

You are welcome...I'd be nervous too. I wouldn't advise the job bc of claims and labor AND all the hard work with little results.
Remember... Your experience in furniture was in NY,as an ex HHG mover, and ALSO from the South.the best work ethic I seen was in the North East and Chicago area...the Southern fellas were not as enthusiastic ,so you will always need another helper, you cannot do it all by yourself, but most days will FEEL like you just did,bc labor doesn't have invested what you have invested...
best wishes to you and yours...
