Running with JCT, Part Deux

    Well I exercised my walk-away option and left JCT last Wednesday. Received an offer to work in the oilfields, and I needed to evaluate my situation with JCT. I'm not going to bad mouth them. It simply was not going to work out for me, for a variety of reasons--which I am not going to get into here in an effort to NOT derail this thread into a hate fest.

    Many people are successful here. The miles are there as well. In my six weeks with them I turned some solid miles. Average paid miles are 2765. Definitely a long-haul operation. In those six weeks I would see maybe two shipper and receivers per week, usually just one on each end. They call "sitting" dwell time and they work hard to keep your ### moving.

    Yep, that was Mike.

    I'm hesitant to cut him loose because having him around nets a positive cost:benefit ratio. I have to have a routine human interaction or I start going bonkers, but it takes a patient person to put up with me on a daily basis.

    So... I have to be patient, too. This time was an improvement, though. The other trip I had to leave him behind or we'd have had a service failure. This load was dispatched out at solo speed so I wasn't worried about running late, just finding parking & interrupting my rolling restart for a 10 minute jog to WalMart.

    I wish they were as dilligent with teams as they were with you, unloader. We've burned 18-20 hours sitting on a few different occasions, and 5-6 on a normal basis.

    Yeah, I found the whorehound. :D

    Is it just me or does Love's have the worst wifi of any of the majors? My laptop can get a solid signal a full 50 yards from the office of my old company. Thats through the sleeper of my old truck and at least two trailers plus two cinder block walls to a standard two ant wireless router. To maint connection at a Love's I think I'd have to be in the first fuel lane or parked inside the building.

    I found that both flying j and loves had terrible wifi. At least for my tastes since I stream a lot of video on Netflix. Keep in mind how many people are using the wifi, on top of many companies Qualcomm units tapped into the network while trucks are parked there. Bandwidth can only stretch so far before everything slows down.

    Yes Love's really sucks. Pilot/Flying J sucks a little less. Petro/TA can be fast at off hours but slows when there are too many users.

    It's not technically the name of the truck stop that determines the quality of the signal, but rather the location you are in. Wi-Fi speeds are only as good as the ISP provider in the area. Some parts of the country consider 24 Mbps to be fast, and that is not fast at all.

    Wandering Wi-Fi is upgrading their equipment nationwide and that is part of the problem....It of date equipment.

    When you look at the status of your connection, the speed you see in the box is not your speed, but the speed of your connection to the hot spot. So you could be connected at 11 Mbps and have blazing speed and other times connected at 54 Mbps or more and have crappy speeds.

    One thing I do almost every night is call Wandering Wi-Fi and have them adjust their stuff. A lot of times it's simple channel interference which they usually can clean up. Our a particular hot spot is not transmitting as it should and they can reboot equipment if needed. I've been using them for several years and have yearly subscriptions to them (it's way cheaper) and have so many 24 hour credits added to my subscription that I usually end up with at least a month free.

    Sitting at the Love's in Barstow, CA for the night. Got an appt tomorrow morning at Costco in Mira Loma, CA. Hopefully get a load out of Cali tomorrow so don't have to sit at the dreaded Ontario truck stops.
