Thanx for the welcome. I'm parked at the Ranch Hand in Montpelier Idaho waiting for my 10 to expire. Dreading heading into Oregon and Washington with the heat. I hate idling but Black truck and no APU in triple digit heat is a sucky situation. At least my Prostar getting better MPG than my Cassie so the fuel part of idling doesnt hurt as much as it could.
I got a question, this is my first time hauling reefer. The bills and dispatch say 25 degrees but neither specify continuous or cycle and when I picked it up it was set at 20 degrees cycle. It is now set at 26 degrees cycle but how do I know if it should really be left in cycle since it was left set at 20 degrees. This was a preload drop and hook at Tyson in noel, mo
Send a freeform message and ask. When you send your loaded call you state what its set to. If that's wrong you will get a message asking you to change it. Rule of thumb: produce is always continuous. Frozen is cycle. Safeway loads also continuous. Read the bottom of the load details as it may state in there (the Qualcomm load message). ALSO! If you know the load should be set a certain way DO NOT blindly follow messages to change settings. Send a message asking if they are sure about the changes and give any specific load info you know about. I once had a load where four different people instructed me the change the temp/cycles. Once I relayed some certain load facts they agreed I was right and thanked me for keeping the correct settings. TA
Always check Tyson loads, half of our facilities the yard driver is too lazy to change the temp to what it is supposed to be. If a fresh load that isn't supposed to be frozen arrives frozen, they will reject it.
When the BOL says something significantly different from the dispatch I set to what the BOL says and after sending my loaded call I send a free form explaining exactly what the BOL says. Usually its something simple like cycle vs continuous but I've had one major diff on a pilgrim's pride load I picked up in Texas. Dispatch said -10 and the BOL said specifically 25 continuous, and they made me sign twice for that setting. When I browsed through the BOL's I found that part of the load was a cross dock from Georgia and was to be run at -10 for the first 10 hours after leaving Georgia then to 25 continuous.
