I'm at the house for the weekend right now, truck is at the terminal but I'll get you some tomorrow afternoon when I leave out. If your truck has a place to store load locks it's super easy. If it doesn't then you need a few more parts but my setup works either way. I just got a new truck that didn't have load lock storage so I had to figure out a new way to do mine. It's been on there about a month and no problems. I'll post some pics tomorrow and also a list of parts needed.
Get sprint or T-mobile plan with unlimited internet. If you get an iPhone you can buy an adapter for $35 that lets you connect HDMI cable to the phone, run that to tv. You're golden. I used to do this at home since my cable internet was limited to 400GB per month, but my phone was unlimited. If you go with a Samsung andriod phone, research before you buy, don't be an idiot like me. I bought the Note 5, ordered my adapter from amazon and when it arrived it wouldn't work. 2 minutes of research told me I was a ####### for not doing said research ahead of time. If your phone CAN use the adapter, it's only about $20. BTW, anyone wanna buy a samsung hdmi adapter? Cheap.... Ed
T-mobile includes hotspot in their data now? When I had them hotspot was extra. I tried a couple apps but they didn't work. Ed
Not with bingeon. Tho they have an unlimited plan that allows tethering. It's 90$ (or 70$ for the one that is even less unlimited) past 22 gigs they slow your connection down. And tmobile has pretty spotty coverage unless you stay in major metro areas constantly. My plan @ att isn't that much more expensive. I get 20 gigs of data (at least they don't limit it), if I go over 20 gigs they just slow it way down now, no more overages. Tho the speed after hitting limit is useless for anything but basic web browsing. Also I can stream direct tv stuff for free (no data used) since I have directv at home. It's not bad. Between the Directv stuff I have (even pay per view stuff) and the 20 gigs I am golden. Tho the second att or verizon offer a real unlimited plan I'll be on it I swear. As far as satelite internet for the truck, it's as expensive as any cell service (if you get the service made for truckers/rvers) and you are limited in data the same way. Not to mention the speed of it is slower than most 4g connections. Not worth it for internet imo
I have a wifi modem ... it is a hot spot. $50 for 10G rollover data and unlimited Binge On video. You can get 8G for $30 with Binge On ... for tv/video it's well worth to me. I cut the cord at home, so it's costing me nothing extra, other than the modem, for TV on the road.
Well now that AT&T owns Directv, and they offer it as no data for THAT service, I'd probably go that route after a while. My only concern would be what, if any, limits they have on the Directv internet package. Not for data, but do they offer the same channels and packages. Although, I'm not sure that's going to last. Net neutrality and all that. Ed
Last summer I finally got satellite tv for the truck. We have dish network at home, so it's only $8 a month for it in the truck. The initial cost hurts, but only $8 a month is good. I got mine from a place in Albany, Oregon (Not sure if I can say the name of the company here or not) that sells truck supplies. The unit is the non motion one, so the truck has to be stopped. It was about $385 (can't remember exactly) then the mounting brackets were like $40 and the dish receiver was $99. I did almost all the installation myself to save money. The only work I had done was the bracket being put on the truck. I pull food grade tank so it goods very good reception, but for the van trailer drivers it doesn't do as well because of the height of the trailer. Most drivers pulling vans need to have the truck facing south to get the signal. I don't have that problem though. Snow will block the signal, and some rain storms will temporally block the signal too. I drive a lot in Calif., and I was concerned with the very rough freeways there but so far the dish is holding up fine. As for internet I use a verizon jet pack and get very good 4G service.
Here are some pics of my satellite setup. It's just a home dish I had laying around, and I use the receiver to find the satellite. There is an app that helps you find direction in your location, I use that and it takes me about 3 or 4 mins to do it. The poles are 2 different size fence poles cut to the length I wanted. One slides inside the other just in case you need to raise it over the top of the truck. I try to park where I don't have to do that though. I use a bolt to hold it in place. It has give so you can adjust the asmith in different areas by pulling back and forth on a bungee strap. If you have a truck with a load lock holder just put the pole in there and your done. I just moved to the cascadia and it didn't have one so I had to come up with something different. It's mounted with #2 and #3 conduit clamps bolted together with a 1/4" bolt. I cut a pieces of hose to go around the handle on the truck just to keep from scratching the truck. It's been like that for a month or so and no problems. Just ran the wire up through where they ran my inverter wires. Don't pay attention to my photo. I chopped my truck number Out. Any one had any questions feel free to ask.
