In most states you are allowed to have up to the weight rating of the tires on your steer axel. In most cases, this is 12,350 (6,175 per tire) I don't like to do it, but I have run up to 12,300 on my steers. I prefer 11,5 to 11,8. And yes, I would stretch the load out. I like my molars right where they are. I just wish California would realize that all that bouncing from the short bridge law places excess weight to the ground each time it bounces down, which puts unnecessary wear on the roads. A smoother ride would eliminate a lot of that. But what do I know? I'm just a truck driver.
i dont mind lots of lbs on the steers either as long as the fuel works out--drives and steers i prefer heavy in winter and you are right--it probabely is where the tanks are--or else your fifth wheel is forward
in canada you are allowed 12500 on the steers--but generally i always legalized it for us weights as that is where i was always headed--but that way you could leave out a bit heavy with fuel and just count on the burn to get you legal by the time you hit a scale in us
Kingson, where are your fuel tanks ? If they're under your doors VS under your sleeper, makes a difference on the steers.
That is where they are... and next time I get a truck I will check that (along with the former driver's smoking habits... this one is still nasty). No matter how light the front of the trailer is, the steers are always 11 something, closing in on 12. I have always heard about the extra allowed for "tires", but never feel comfortable chancing it. It just seems like one of those things an individual DOT officer could get a burr stuck in his saddle about. Same thing with this silly card I have in my registration, etc. book that says the APU allows me an extra 400lbs. Right.
King, Try this to get rid of that skanky arsed smoke smell. Mr Clean with Frebreeze (however it's spelled!) mix it with water in 5 gallon bucket. Pull the vents off of the A/C ducts and put in the bucket. Get a coat hanger and a rag. Cut the coat hanger and then with a pair of needle nose pliers make a small loop in one end and hook the rag in it and clamp it down. If there is a filter in the system pull it out and replace it with a clean one when done with the following or this is a waste of time! Use a tooth brush and scrub the vents down good and leave them in the bucket. Get the rag good and wet and ram rod the duct work several times and rinse the rag and do it again untill it comes out clean. Get into the filter area by hand as well as you can. Pour out the Mr Clean and rinse the vents and fill with clean water and then go over all the duct work again and rinse them out. Do not forget the duct work in the sleeper! If there is a Tri Pack unit you need to do it also! If your truck has the vinyl upholstery get a car wash sponge and fill the bucket back up with the Mr. Clean and start on the roof and work your way down to the floor and yes do the floor if it's the rubber pad! OH! ONLY after doing the A pillars and the dash! You'll need the tooth brush to do all the crack where the panels of the dash meet! You are trying to get ALL the tar and dirt out of the truck! This can be a 5 hour job if you're really wanting to clean that nasty habit of the former driver up and to have bragging rights that you keep a cleaner truck than the other guy! LOL If you have carpet use either Prestone carpet cleaner or Turtle Wax carpet cleaner and do not be afraid to use a lot of it! These two cleaners and a good scrub brush will remove 5th wheel grease! It might take several treatments but this will make a carpet look new! Do the seats if they are velour! If you have access to a wet dry vac then get some Hoover carpet cleaner and fill a spray bottle with hot water and the Hoover cleaner as directed well and then scrub with the scrub brush and then vacuum with the wet vac! Let it dry then use the Scotch Guard liberly and that truck not only smells like a fresh breeze but is clean and will stay that way if you're like me and clean everyday! To keep the truck smelling nice spray Frebreeze on your bedding and velour upholstery, the carpet in the bottoms of the closets and the floor. If you have that fish net stuff over the cabinets spray it too! it's cloth and well collects odors too! Hope all you non smokers unfortunate enough to get stuck behind a spineless smoker tries this to remove their smell from your new home! Yes, to do a complete smoke removal detail will take a while but it's worth it. Sorry smokers, but I have the right to bad mouth you all as I smoked for 39 years and finally woke up after I quit! Maybe one of the best things I did! The silliest thing was a year later I'm told I had cancer! What a let down! The GOOD thing was it wasn't from smoking! God can and will throw a curve at you in life! LOL Life is a series of learning curves and some of those curves aren't a curve but a flat, straight up wall! I hope you all had a great Christmas and I pray you all have a safe New Year! If you go out new Years Eve will you all tip one for me as I still haven't gotten the taste for beer or Jack Daniels back and that's a down side to radiation to the face and head along with Chemo!
the 400lb weight excemption is in a few states and onlyif the vehicle is equiped with an apu. Otherwise legal axle weight limit is determined by the tire rating, also depends on the state some will allow 20,000 single axle regardless check your atlas for that info.
