Still...I see it as a trend, and a dangerous one. Incrementalism.....little by little.
Not a big deal? Perhaps not. I've certainly been know to blow things out of proportion more than once in my lifetime.
But I'm sick and tired of companies taking this "bit by bit" approach in dinging drivers. And that's what this is, IMHO.
And their track record with implementation of things after extensive "testing" sucks. Period.

I got my truck in for a PM today, and I was assured that Gary, did indeed have the sensors, and that my truck was getting one. Boo.
-
mine just came out from a PM. Running dedicated, being home most every day I dont necessarily see an issue with how I run, but it might have been nice to get a heads up they were even considering this.
Does anybody have any friends at the other companies that use this? Wonder what their impression is. -
Actually, I think Heartland Express uses this type of control. Don't know the temperature parameters, but might want to check out the HE threads. -
To everyone saying that it's dangerous for the truck to shut down while in gear, exactly how is it dangerous really? If the truck is in gear and it shuts off it won't move an inch. The gear will hold the truck in place. It's not dangerous, but it is extremely stupid and pathetic that the situation would possibly occur.
They obviously are implementing this now for two reasons. They get to test their new sensor in the winter months, when battery life is at it's lowest. Yeah, we get stranded in an extreme weather situation possibly, and we apparently are guinea pigs for Green Bay's experiments.
The second reason is if they implemented this at any other time of the year, drivers would be pissed because of hot summer weather and lack of A/C. They do it now and by the time next summer comes around, all the people that won't put up with it will leave, and the ones that put up with it will be used to it so the time next hot season comes there will be months of "getting used to it".
Personally, I just think it's insulting that they obviously are implementing this system coming off of a very hot summer when we don't need to idle anymore. This is obviously targeting summer weather idling and by giving it time for the situation to sink in it will be less of an issue come next May and June. -

Did they stop putting on the ACs? Mine worked fine all summer long down here in Texas.

Yep just another test program. In a year SNI will disable them like previous years devices.
