    Right..that is too high.

I can run at 58mph in 12th @1375rpm for great MPG.
That's only in the 55-60MPH zones.
Anything over depends on the load.
Friday on the way from Breinigsville to Smyrna DE I messed around and ran slower than usual.
Ran a combo of 56-62MPH and managed 9.2 MPG with 40K in the box.

So it seems I have been running a bit too fast..time to get in the right lane and Sloooow down.

Speed and fuel efficiency are inversely related, meaning the faster you go, the lower your mileage. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, as a rule of thumb, you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.21 per gallon for gas (at $3.00 per gallon). Slowing from 65 to 55 can decrease your consumption by up to 15%.

Of course, your results will vary, but slowing down will increase your income by decreasing your expenses. The hardest part is getting used to 55 again, like we did during the oil embargo days.

Can't run that slow in 13th..truck doesn't like it.
    She'll run all day at 57mph in 12th..getting 8+mpg.
    I don't speed around mind you..usually around 67mph in the 65-70 zones.
With a light wagon she can run fast at 68MPH and still get high 7's to 8.
Heavy I tend to run 65-66..which has mixed results depending on the area driving in.

I am well aware of running slower to maximize fuel economy..but refuse to cruise around at 55 in a 70 MPH zone.

For every 1 mph over 55 you lose .1 mpg. As a general rule.

Actually that's not entirely true. Volvos new transmission is doing that exact same thing. While heavy they run in direct drive for max pulling power and while empty they run in overdrive to maximize fuel economy. So they run in 12th direct while heavy and 13th od while empty.
