I'm kinda cross eyed from going through a lot of pages but I do think I remember something about that.
Anyway I have no wife or kids, no car.. own a house but have a room mate paying me most of my expenses there so I'm better much free as a butterfly lol.
However I don't have much money at all in the bank as I just use my paychecks to pay off all my credit cards, another 2-3 months and I'll have zero debt.

My luck though I'll get a truck and the first week it'll break down but I'll still have huge truck payments to cover ahhhh

If you go new (not sure if it applies to gently used, LOL), you run the first 4 weeks with out a truck payment. A lot depends on new or used???

If you breakdown the 1st week..SNI will wave your payment.
    Happened to me..turbo went 1st week(new truck)..I was down for 3 days.
New trucks you have no payment for the 2 weeks.
Gives you a chance to get your feet "wet".

    Yes that helps too..LOL!
That's why you shouldn't go in without any savings.
Things go wrong..if you don't plan a head you can get in the hole very quick.

I will say this and it's not to be a Smart A@@ but if you're asking what is the correct amount to have in savings in order to become IC choice I'll guess you don't have enough in the bank and I say this because only the individual can say if they have enough. Every body's situation is different so no answer fits all, although if you live paycheck to paycheck stay a company driver because being an O/O is hard work and there might be a time you don't have a weeks check to send home.

so are there lanes with high paying freight you can book consistently ?
people keep saying there's tons of cheap freight on choice.
Some of you have posted good numbers.. but is it difficult to get the good freight?

    whats the real story?

Not difficult at all if you flow with the freight at least from what I see. But I'm also in the northeast and there is no shortage of well priced freight most of the loads I pick pay over 1.70 unless I'm trying to relocate and even then the lowest paying load I've had so far is like 1.40 something

Most freight is regional so if you are in a particular region rates are generally stable. The second you want to get out of a region chances are you are going to take a hit on the rates. Only exception is Midwest. Rates are more stable in general but aren't through the roof either. Midwest pays pretty good into Texas and real good into the northeast but getting back into the Midwest takes some work. West coast seems way more inconsistent, although freight out of socal pays pretty #### good.
